Compensation

If a passenger is denied compensation for a late flight because the airline deemed it a safety reason, are they not entitled to know what the problem was?

Anyone have an idea to force the issue? The airline is not answering requests for more details.

Safety could be anything, that a pilot is drunk, the aircraft has a technical issue, that the aircraft is a grounded MAX etc. ... Don't be shy to name and shame the airline, try putting in a claim with your card provider to the effect that you didn't receive what you paid for and under EU law whatever etc. , if possible I always prefer to pay thru PayPal and a pain in the butt they may be if the airline doesn't respond with a satisfactory answer then one normally wins.

They will always try and avoid giving any specific details in the hope that you will give up on your claim and go away. The problem is you obtaining the proof you need that they are telling fibs, if indeed they are of course.

Or if you are England & Wales based and the airline have a registered office in England & Wales regardless if they are British or otherwise, a search of Companies House shall provide that info, then take them thru County Court under the Small Claims Track, a google of 'MCOL' shall identify the County Court website to you, great fun, Agoda settled out of court with me while booking dot com are currently playing hard to get.

Flight originating in or to Europe?

Go to dispute resolution. If you can't be bothered, there are plenty of firms online who will raise a dispute for you on a no win no fee basis.

The airline is obliged to give information to the adjudicator or your claim is upheld by default.
