Lufthansa Miles & More
I have just had this in an e-mail update from LH. I see that they are joing the real world in the first instance. The second is to be expected and shows just how many M&Ms they must have out there!

Beginning August 1, 2002, Miles & More members can redeem their miles for free flight and upgrade awards for friends and acquaintances. It will no longer be required for a Miles & More
member to accompany the passenger using the awards.
As of October 2002, Miles & More members will need an additional 10,000 miles for flight awards used for one-day trips the same business day. This change does not affect one-day trips on
weekends (Saturdays and Sundays).
