Long (20 Hrs) mid January layover in Atlanta,suggestions welcome
After spending too may hours searching I eventually clicked and only then realised the length of my layover. I'm not complaining but after searching a bit I thought someone might have done the footwork already and be willing to give a few tips. Will be there from 21 hrs Wednesday till 17 hrs Thursday.
thanks
Going out through AMS, so any good viewing area at ATL?

Strolling will probably involve renting a car anyway to get to areas like Buckhead with its big 'ol houses. Stone Mountain is interesting and not much further. Feeling a bit more adventurous but on the same side of the city? Athens GA is worth a look

On a rather different level, the Center for Civil and Human Rights https://www.civilandhumanrights.org/ opened last year. We found it very moving - and it takes a lot to move me.
I wouldnt recommend strolling much in American cities, if its not unsafe then the local PD often feel that anyone not in a car ina nice resdidential area is probably a thief anyway.
Shame but I have been in your shoes-unplanned afternoon and overnight in Atlanta and didn't find alot to do there at all. The most impressive thing about the place is Hartsfield itself

@pax britanica:
If you are ever in Chicago, I would recommend Lincoln Park area for strolling, and specifically W. Arlington Place , honestly one of the most delightful residential streets I've encountered, see on Google Maps>Street view- 41°55'36.3"N 87°38'40.0"W

@Alsacienne: thanks for link Mary Mac's I will head there, menu look good and can taste some good ol' Southern cooking, thanks
