Is there anyone on here that is familiar with SIA's deals for stop overs in Singapore and how to negotiate the best deal for an elderly couple transiting through Singers?

What to look out for?
Any hotels that are to be avoided?
Any hotels to be recommended?

The hotels offered by SIA for the Premium Stopover are all First Class.
If this is a once-in-a-lifetime go for Raffles.
Been there, couldn't afford the t-shirt but will go back.

need to think where you'll be staying and what you want to see

even tho Spore is small you can spend time getting from one area to another eg Marina to Orchard Road

Also are you going to use public transport or walk or be restricted to a taxi?

All hotels are good but check you don't get one which only serves Halal food - one or two of the Malaysian chains don't do pork/bacon etc for breakfast

Singapore stopover

Hello, I have traveled there a few times and always used the SIA
"Singapore stopover". All the hotels we used were good.
Sometimes the dinner, if a buffet, could be a bit of a bunfight
as the locals wait for the good stuff to be refreshed. We stayed once
near to Clark key which had several good restaurants and bars easily
walked to. Nothing is very cheap. We found Orchard road a rip-off, but then
we do visit Asia a bit. Did not find taxi's over-expensive. Recommend take some tours,
there are plenty in the SIA program. We did the harbour cruise on the 'Imperial Cheng Ho',
also a trip to some Island. Have you looked at the SIA website ?

Don't stay too long. There is really very little to see and it is eye wateringly expensive unless you eat local. Taxis are very cheap and reliable, but take cash or MasterCard: not Visa. The metro is good and dirt cheap but some of the interchanges are quite a hike. Anything outside is going to be pretty wearing for an AP (aged parent). Not a place to shop anymore, either.

Try eating at a 'Hawker market' ( I think that's the correct name), where the locals eat.
I would avoid the 'half-boiled' egg though.

I shall also be having a 12 hour transit at SIN very soon. That is a timetabled arrival/depart.

Is there a simple coach tour to grab, without too much hassle? Should we select the 1 hour or the 2 or 3 hour? We don't know if we'll want to rest then tour, or tour and rest - so will be booking on the day.

Lastly, as a regular to South Africa, I am used to 'wrapping' my suitcase to prevent pilfering. Given that our cases are going to be through checked and we have the 12 hour layover, should we wrap them?

Hello, check carefully, but the long tour should be OK. If possible book it
via the airline. I have never wrapped my suitcases through Asia (BKK, Singers, KL, Penang Hong Kong, Macau.....)
If I wished to I would take some tape & a roll of Gladwrap & do it myself.
Actually, thinking about it & traveling out of Auckland soon.....
