Apd changes
Hiya,
Can anyone help me please. I am looking to travel to L.A with the family. I have been told by staff travel that the kids should be exempt from taxes since the changes in APD but they are still trying to charge me £150 taxes for the children (1 child and 1 infant) on my annual bookable. Have rung the offices up this morning to be told this is for 'other taxes' but that doesnt seem right to me as the price hasnt dropped since I looked in April and Iv been holding out til after the 1st May to book these seats.... Are they right and theres still taxes involved or does it get refunded after we travel??? Noone at the staff travel office seems to be able to answer my questions?
Thanks in advance

I think APD was dropped for under 12s a few days ago and will be dropped for 12-15s in about 12 months time. Most web sites say the APD will be charged at booking and then refunded when the systems are sorted.
That's what BA told me a couple of weeks ago.

The challenge is that the exchequer has no (expletive deleted) idea on how airlines collect their taxes for them.
Today the airline has no idea how old a passenger is simply from the booking record. If the kid was assessed the children's fare (only available on higher fares) then yes, they know the kid is under 12. But if the kid's fare is the same as any other passenger - the age information is not collected at booking - if ever.
The 'minister' is a hero for cancelling the tax, and his collectors (the airlines) are bums because they can't refund it.
If the Minister is running in your riding today, don't vote for him, he is an idiot.
