QF Upgrades

In September, I'm flying QF business class to London for work at my employer's expense. My wife wants to come with me. Any tips for new players about getting upgrades from economy? Is it possible to purchase an upgrade at the airport before departure? Thanks in advance

Not sure if it helps, but QF does points upgrades to it's frequent fliers on all it's routes, upgrades clear based on status and first come first serve. Also, if the ticket is discount economy vs fully flex the quantity of points required increases. They tend to clear the upgrades at a really late stage (less then 24 hours before dep) in my experience as a QFF Gold and fill the cabins.

Thanks. We have around 200K FF points but the QF web site says we'll still need around $8K for a Business Class fare. I was hoping to find something less expensive.

Don't fly QF - there are too many Australains who have loads of FF points on every flight so your chances of getting Mrs WB upgraded are close to zero - there are always people ahead of you in that queue

Try and cut a deal with your employer to allow you to buy two Business class seats on another airline and pay the (much smaller) difference

I know Australian men are not renowned for their chivalry towards Sheilas but a truly doting husband that doesn't want to spend the money for an extra seat may well consider sitting in economy and giving his wife the business class seat.
