Bristol - Isle of Man

The Mrs has charged me with finding the best way from BRS to IOM next Easter. There are no direct flights showing so I'm guessing via Liverpool on EasyJet - but they don't guarantee connections. Also found a flight from Gloucester on Citywing, who I have never heard of.

Any other thoughts?

Citywing is Manx2. Same 'airline' different name. You can't polish a turd as they say.

Other than them, land travel to Gatwick or Liverpool and and fly easyJet from there. I was convinced there was a direct flight but seemingly not.

IOM Destinations from Ronaldsway, so safe to assume the flights go the other direction!

Citywing via Gloucester is your best bet, twice daily flights.

Use Flybe, direct flights most days.

Good to see that Flybe picked it up after Eastern. My mother used that route and had to change to the Gloucester one after Eastern stopped. Both were fine.

Since Easter Sunday is 20th April 2014, there are flights from BRS on 17th and 19th. I think it would be silly to use anyone else. A direct flight that - currently - has good prices showing.

Thanks, appears to be Tu, Th and Sa departures (both ways) at Easter. I'll check with SWMBO! These flights are for the in-laws.

Now, how about GVA-IOM for us? - So far the best looks like Squeezy via LGW (with extra long connecting times);

GVA LGW EasyJet TH 17 Apr 0700 0730
LGW IOM EasyJet TH 17 Apr 0950 1105
(2hr 20 min connection)

IOM LGW Easyjet TU 22APR 1135 1250
LGW GVA Easyjet TU 22 APR 1700 1935
(4hr 10 min connection)

Skyscanner is your friend - for both the routes you're looking at!

Thanks Jack but the best it can come up with is BA via LHR and LCY with 9hr + connections.

hi

i used to fly this route weekly for several years. i found flying from gloucester was the best option, smaller airport, free parking ( if i remember correctly) a lot less hassle all round. also city wing/manx 2 operated a couple of flights daily the flybe options from BRS were inconvenient days and times for me.
and i live 1 mile from BRS!

Thanks thrubwell, you must be just down the road from my in-laws (Langford). I'll pass the info on to them, but a Thu departure / Tu return on flybe should work for us.

How long a drive is to Gloucester airport?

I live in Weston super Mare and regularly use Citywing from Gloucester to IOM. The drive takes just slightly over an hour (not rushing) and there is still free parking at Gloucester. They operate the LET 410 aircraft, 19 seats and flight time is just under an hour. I've used them since 2010 (they were Manx2 then) at least twice a year. Used the Bristol IOM service once only and wouldn't ever fly with them again.
And no, I have no connection to Citywing apart from being a regular passenger.

Do British Scareways not offer connection via LCY? I can't believe they expect people to trek across London to connect flights.

BA have no flights GVA LCY April 17/22 2014. I hadn't heard they have dropped or are dropping the route but unless their is a glitch in their system it looks like it.

the other reason for using gloucester was the fares, whilst city wing are not cheap, they were (then) substantially cheaper than flybe from brs.

drive to glos 1 hour or thereabouts

GVA

You can fly direct to GVA from IOM on Saturdays between Dec 21st until the 19th Apr - so you could fly both ways before this date or travel outbound direct 19th and return via LGW or MAN?

Thanks, Cloud1. Easter break for us is from the Friday to the Monday. Leaving on the Saturday loses two days for us.
