Gap's in the door

Was explaining recently to my daughter of how safe flying is these days compared to when I first joined the RAF.

I was taking a transit flight to Hendon from Marham in a Hastings where you had a better view through the gap in the rear door than out the window as we all had to be seated backwards in those days, no inflight movies or snacks, just the rushing of wind and the odd spray from the tarmac on landing "happy days"?

Anyone else have similar experiencies?

Greengrocers' apostrophes, as in "Greengrocers' apostrophes are a common grammatical error"

A greengrocer's apostrophe, as in "The sign contains a greengrocer's apostrophe."

And whilst we're being pedantic :

"A large crowd of people are gathered ...."
or
"A large crowd of people is gathered ....."

A large crowd of people is gathered. Crowd - although many people - is a singular word, or at least it was in my 1965 G.C.E. "O" level.
