Best and Worst Airport

NG PSR,
Excellent description of changing from T2 to T3 at MAN. Most other international airports are replacing terminal transfer buses with some form of rail shuttle: not MAN. It replaced its buses with the "Skylink" a mile-long tube (known locally as the Rat Run) furnished with non-functioning travelators. Cheaper than a train though!

Zurich seemed a little sterile, I guess it is Swiss thing and I wouldn't understand. LGW reminds me a lot of the old PIT terminal.
MCO is fine, but was better in the olden (pre RAT) days when it was NationalAirlines and bagage claim was outside in the shed on the east end of the terminal. Then again, in those days Shawnee Airways flew DC-3s.
My vote for worst is Novosibirsk. Open cattle car from the A/C to the ramp near the terminal building. Baggage claim is in the old shed past the (un)smiling guys with the AKs that check your claim ticket. Suppose it might be bearable in July, in December it isn't. JFK international arrivals (imigration and all) looked pretty d*** good on the way home.

Lagos is without doubt the a******e of the world. Filthy, corrupt and totally non functional. The recent documentary on Lagos airport only just scratched the surface.
Heathrow - too old, Narita - too 'urgent', all Moscow airports - too damn cold, Changi - too sterile.
Loved Rio's Santos Dumont, lovely downtown airport, nice friendly staff. In a previous life was very lucky to sit RH seat in a BAe125-800 ferry flight out of there.
Quite like Stansted apart from the parking charges

I don't know about Changi being too sterile.
Passed through there on the way to Oz in 1995 and saw Richie Benaud who was on his way from Oz to the cricket world cup in India or Pakistan. Anyway, listening to the commentary a few days later there's poor Richie with the same sh!tty flu as me!
40 celsius in Perth and the flu - dreadful!
Not a bad airport though - just a few "bugs" in the air conditioning!

I used to like Amsterdam/Schipol's quietness -no announcements, just keep an eye on the arrs/deps boards.
The Canaries airports terminals are neat, airy and pretty efficient, even when handling huge numbers of holiday charters.
The old departures tin shed at Benghazi took some beating for squalid chaos...

On the worst list:
BOM:70's time-warp!! Having been marooned there for a night by CX(B777 went 'tech!),I can tell you it is the worst filthy pit that you have the misfortune to get stuck in.
Facilities are virtually non-existent(travel a minimum of business or have an FF card to get you into a lounge), with no accurate information on the boards or means of getting information to Pax...I think the PA system gave up the day after opening...
On the end of the scale with Brand new airports I would have to say the lay-out of the new DXB leaves alot to be desired.
The distances from check-in to the gates are miles!! Typical sequence from gate to customs
is as folllows: Up air bridge-ramp to first escalator, walk or tavalators (X 2 at least if each end of terminal, down 3 escalators, to the 'tunnel' under the taxy-way for 400 meters, 3 x travalators, up one escalator, enter the massive marshalling hall for immigration.
Needless to say a large number of special services for elderly and infirm pax...
Still a massive improvement on the old means of bussing all the pax to a/c for the terminal which in mid-summer 45+ degrees was no fun...
LHR Terminal 4 still one of the better airport terminals, apart from the massive hike around to the corruagted metal tube on the south east side they call a departure wing>>..

Just my quick two bob`s worth and my own personal opinion.
Best..Singapore
Highly Commended..Auckland & Christchurch
Best in the UK..Almost impossible to
pick any airport, but if pushed try
..Belfast EGAA
Worth a mention..Tenerife South. They have
made considerable efforts there.
Worst..Los Angeles by miles. Treated worse
than cattle by arrogant, stuck up,
totally disinterested staff at all levels
I transited through there having attended
my father`s funeral, absolutely no
assistance or understanding whatsoever.
Quite Poor..Any airport in Greece
Worst in UK..Very much depends on the
attitude of the security staff on duty at
the time. Could be Manchester or Gatwick,
but my last passage through LGW was quite
reasonable
