Question Who turned off the lights?

Why? when an a/c takes off must the cabin crew dim the lights? apparently something to do with SOP but can anyone explain?...

In case of emergency, you must be able:

1/ To see the exits path lighting
2/ To see the outside conditions

Both are improved without the cabin lights on.

Is it mandatory? Only I noted the other day at Madrid that all IBERIA aircraft landed with their cabin lights blazing.

BRUpax, Nothing is mandatory on Iberia...and definitely not the schedules!

It must depends of the country's regulations and/or SOP. I will check in JAR-OPS if I can find something.
