I guess this was an A320 series A/C.
Does the exit have a central locking system as quoted?
Earlier types I have worked on relied on cabin differential pressure to prevent in flight opening of exits.
Just interested.

The incident, although potentially dangerous, was reported well by the newspaper don't we think? If this was in the UK the trash press would have claimed terrorism, aliens or some other drivel to mashup the story. After reading this report - it appears he did a good job in opening the door very well - had a stern talking to by some guards; passengers were delayed and even a few were left stranded but my gosh, it wasn't the end of the world.

One sentence from Curious monk sparks flight alarm - Kolkata - City - The Times of India caught my attention:
How could a passenger that does not easily communicate with the crew be seated next to the emergency exit?
An unfazed Thunga who understands little Hindi or English told them that he was feeling "suffocated".
