Avoiding APD

If Airline Passenger Duty rises to 80 GBP per person will it ever make sense to fly or railway abroad to catch a flight even further abroad.

Do you think a business could develop to circumvent this tax?

Or split tickets--first part to Paris (small tax) second part to Hong Kong .

Just some thoughts.

It already does..........

It already does make sense to shop around in Europe. In another thread, I've pointed out that Etihad want £2200 from CDG to SYD, and £3300 from lhr to syd - all in business class.
BA to CDG to fit in with EY flights - £140. Done.

Whenever I go to a ticket price search engine, I always try acouple of European airports aswell. Last week BA were cheaper from CDG to SYD, (via lhr) than they were from lhr to syd.

I used to fly from Bru a lot, and the agent that I used kept rather a lot of "open" ticket returns. I've no idea how it worked, but in his way, bru to USA via lhr was always cheaper than lhr to USA.

If Trousers Brown gets his way, there'll eventually be no UK airline industry at all, so overland to Europe will be the only option.

80 quid? From next year, your government will tap you for GBP 170 for business class > 6000 miles. "If you don't like it then leave", they said. So I did.

I'm glad to see there is something on which I can agree with Crepello.
