jammydonut - Don't be so quick to judge. Monarch are actually co-ordinating the rescue flights for the XL collapse. As one of the UK oldest airlines the CAA have asked them to organise the help. Monarch have arranged for several aircraft to fly out empty to repatriate stranded passengers.

As I was heavily involved in the post Tsunami evac from Sri Lanka I can assure you this will be no easy process.

With repsect to the schedule fares like many systems the Monarch reservation computer responds to the numbers of hits on a particular route, the more hits the more the fare is likely to increase!

Someone on the TV was moaning that another carrier had increased the price of it's flights back from Florida for £300 to £1000 in half an hour. Surely it's simply the fact that the cheaper seats have been sold. That's how all carriers tend to work. I doubt any of them are deliberately increasing prices to capitalise on XL's downfall - most are keen to offer discounts to the unfortunate passengers because it gets them a mention on the news. BA and Virgin certainly did when Zoom went, but as is always the case with last minute bookings, the cheapest seats are soon snapped up.

The thieving bar stewards probably think pax will claim on insurance but many will be maxed out on CC so can't pay upfront.
Heard on 13.00 news that easyjet is offering flatrate £75 for rescue flight pp. I may have heard it wrong so could be talkin crap.

BA

BA is giving a "special " discount to XL PAX who are already away and a discount on current World Offer fares to those yet to travel. They are also sending a 777 to Orlando to bring back 220 stranded there although it doesn't say what fare that is at.

Get your facts straight Jammy before posting utter rubbish. Monarch have most certainly not increased their fares on those routes. They (and others) always are willing and go out of their way to help out other airlines and this case is no exception.

despite Celebair
What on earth does that have to do with it?

Easyjet are charging £75 to get home. Sometimes even the dreaded LCC's have their uses.

ATOL website

Possibly those pax trying to book direct on airline websites are jumping the gun, though I can imagine that info abroad may be limited

Solidarity

To all ex colleages, friends and others. My condolences for the sad news of XL in administration to-day.
Fellow aviators, Aviatrix, and all staff, this is the time for solidarity in the ranks. Do not bicker like fisherwives, infighting does nothing to help. Rally around, give support to our brothers and sisters, for it may be your turn next to be headlined on CNN, SKY or BBC.
It is my sincere hope that a rescue package be secured, and all your jobs at XL be saved.

Best Wishes to you for the future.
