Jet2's 'hidden' costs

I was under the impression that UK airlines, if not EU airlines now had to show fully inclusive fares from the off on their websites. Have I got this wrong?

I've just tried to book a return flight from Leeds Bradford to Prague with Jet2, initially the cost was £24.99 outbound and £19.99 inbound. On the next screen this jumped to around £80 with taxes and charges, almost twice as much as expected but still not too bad. Then when I continued with the booking and got to the final payment screen another fuel supplement was added taking the total to over £100. Whilst this is still not extortionate why did their website not just give the total cost on the first screen?

Unimpressed I then went to the BMIBaby website and booked my flights with them from Manchester. The final price I paid was the price quoted on the first screen.

I wasn't exactly looking forward to using Jet2 after experiencing their check in farce at LBA last year and will be steering clear in the future.

I fully agree that Jet2 should show ALL non-optional charges on the Flight Select page.

However, in fairness to Jet2, they do quite clearly state on the Flight Select page that the Total Cost shown (which includes Taxes and charges) EXCLUDES 'Fuel Supplement and Variable Credit Card charges'. As these charges are non-optional, I believe they should be shown with the Taxes and Charges.

In the example you gave, the Fuel Supplement alone is not responsible for the increase in cost from 'Around £80 to over £100' as the Fuel Supplement on this route is £4.26 in each direction.

The extra charges you have encountered are taxes etc. They are shown in the top right hand corner as a running total when you are choosing your tickets. Try the initial booking again and you'll see what I mean - and you'll see that Jet2 hasn't gone out of it's way to highlight it.
This covers the requirement to show all taxes, fees etc but also means the "big numbers" are lower.

It's perfectly legal and viable and no different from a lot of other airlines, but I think it shouldn't be done this way. Little underhand for my liking.
