Leveling Off and Re-Pressuring?
Hello all, I am an avid flyer (passenger) and had a quick question. Over the past 2-3 years I've noticed that on American Airlines (I live in Dallas, and that's really my main choice) 757, 767 and 777 and maybe even the Md-80's too....but we'll take off, climb to 8-12,000 feet maybe, the engines slow down, plane levels off, maybe for about 30-60 seconds, the plane just seems like it's 'idling' for lack of a better term, then the engines rev up, you feel the pressure in your seat, and then you start to climb again. What is the reason for that? Is the plane re-pressurizing, is it a noise abatement thing? I didn't think it was for noise since we are pretty high up and far enough away. I wouldn't compare this to the type of take off at John Wayne/Orange County, cause I do know there is a noise restriction there. Anyway, thanks......
