Caution to those who use the M25 to get to LHR
Beware - any time now, the speed cameras between the A3 junction and Heathrow Airport will be going live. They do not have to be highly visible any more so the grey boxes above the gantries will suffice.
Allegedly, they will be triggered at 9 mph above the speed limit. Bearing in mind that variable speed limits are often in force on that stretch and that you have very little way of knowing how accurate your speedometer is. (the manufacturer is permitted a 10% margin of error). it would be wise to tread very carefully!

Average speed cameras are easy to cope with, as long as you know where they are. There's one camera for each lane, so as long as you exit on a different lane from the one you entered on you should be ok.
I know this because I wrote to a national newspaper saying how much I hated all speed cameras, but especially average ones. They came back with this handy little tip.
Or you could hang a blanket over your number plate.
