Lost baggage claim

I had the misfortune to lose a suitcase and have been sent a claim form by the airline. They don't give new for old so I have to fill in an amount for fair wear and tear. I suspect that the easiest way to do this is to deduct a percentage from the actual cost but does anyone have any ideas as to what percentage should be used? I don't want to put too great an amount but on the other hand I don't want to put too little that the insurance company take a black pen and reduce it all significantly further.

Thanks.

Why not put in the replacement cost of each item and let them deduct "wear and tear" and see what figure they come up with - that way youre not short changing yourself

About 15 years ago I also lost a suitcase (still not seen it from that day to this) and claimed through my household insurance as the airline responsibility was for a VERY low monetary value. I gave them the price I paid for each item - its age - and they adjusted accordingly
