Manchester pick-up
The missus and I are dedicated public transport users, but when her arrival at MAN was delayed by hours on Saturday night I borrowed a car and went to pick her up. - Greater Manchester public transport is not a place you want your wife loitering late on a Saturday night.
It turns out that there is nowhere to just pick up a waiting arriving passenger - I got soaked for a £1.80 car park fee even though I didn't actually get as far as parking at all.
How long has this particular rip off been going on? Given the uselessness of the rail service out to the airport, I'm amazed they have the cheek.

Thanks for the link. I'll remember the departures drop off idea. Not having been before and going at short notice I was caught by surprise - it won't happen again.
