LCY steep approach question

Why the steep approach from the East?
West seems understandable given tall buildings in Docklands

Found this post on this thread which I guess explains it:

"...more of an operational restriction is the steep approach required due to obstacle clearance at each end (Canary Wharf towers at the west end, East London River Crossing bridge at the east end - the latter a theoretical item only at present because it hasn't been built yet ! )."
