America - Visa Rules

HI All,

Sorry if this sound dumb but someone has told me that if your going on holiday to the states as a single parent with child, you need a letter from the childs other parent stating they are happy for the child to enter the states.

Is this true? and what would happen if the parent refused to provide it?

Cheers.

Mrs WH says that this is true for travel to Mexico, but not for the US. Presumably, if you don't get the letter from the other half, then the kiddie doesn't go to Mexico. Either that, or you get a lawyer on the case.
