Swiss Equipment

I regularly fly BHX-ZUR. Up to last week the a/c was always the little Embraer 147(?); the cigar tube with 1 - 2 seating config, no leg room & little overhead storage.

Last week though we had a BAE 146 outbound & return. More interestingly there was no sign of any Swiss Embraers (other than one 170) on the stands at ZUR. Anybody know what's up? Somebody suggested that maybe they've all gone to Lufthansa or the leases are up & they've simply got rid of them (seems a bit implausable that they would also have spare 146's kicking around to take up the slack).

Whatever, it would be nice to never have to fly in one of those uncomfortable little barges again. Am I deluding myself??

IIRC, they've dumped all but three of the Embraers (for the time being) and all of the Saab 2000s - though ISTR that the intention is to lose the remaining Embraers as well. Pity, I quite like them for their sportscar like performance . They managed to acquire the additional Avros from BA CitiExpress.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will be along with the full story soon

Swiss Embraers

No disrespect to the design. I'm sure that aerodynamically the Embraers are cool, especially for the lucky folks sitting up the pointy end driving them. For the pax though they're not brilliant......

Embraers

I love 'em. My favourite short-haul aircraft. Little cigar tube with two RR Allisons strapped to the back. Great. nearest thing to flying corporate jet or even fighter aircraft. OK, I don't like to be window seat in the double row, but in the single it's fantastic.
