Dropping a sector on a redemption booking

I have booked 2 BA miles returns to OZ for December it includes a couple of internal legs on QF, Perth - Melbourne, then Melbourne - Sydney. I now want to cancel the Melbourne - Sydney sector, as I will be travelling to NZ from Melbourne under my own arrangements and returning into Sydney. I would like to cancel this sector ( I wouldnt want any refund of airmiles ), as this part of the booking is under QF control not BA`s, would any alteration mean a total rebooking is necessary (therefore putting at risks the flights and times I already have that are confirmed)? I know I could just be a no show, but I feel better if the seats could be freed for QF to sell or reallocate. Any advice from those in the know would be appreciated.

I believe that you will need to talk to BA if you made the bookings via them.

If you simply 'no show' then you may find the rest of your itinerary cancelled.
