flying time

I was just wondering how long the flight is from Toronto to Heathrow, I flew from Heathrow in 79 and it was about 8hrs on a 747 but someone told me the other day that the flying time is less now going both ways, is that true? I was told it was about 5.5 hrs from Toronto to London.

re flying time

Thanks SATCO for the reply.
I have another question that I wonder about.....why does it seem that it is always more expensive to fly within your country than it is to travel overseas? I can fly to Europe or down south cheaper than I can to Vancouver for example, why is that?

Ah but don't forget holding inbound to LHR.............last time I did this trip (747, times are gate to gate) it was 7hrs 24 LHR/YYZ (well done SATCO)..but YYZ/LHR was only just shorter at 7hrs 11 due to holding.

It can be as little as this if tailwinds are strong, but that's not that common.

Of course, if you arrive at LHR, what you gain in the air you will inevitably lose while sitting around either waiting for your gate to come free, or for the bus drivers to bother to turn up to drive you to the terminal.
