Baggage trolley races are always a good way.
If not you could watch check-in at ghana air and see what real hand baggage looks like.
There's also the poking-yourslef-in-the-eye-with-a-sharp-stick game... always highly entertaining!
But seriously, it depends what terminal. North then theres some decent shopping and eateries/drinkeries airside. South terminal? Stay landside as long as you possibly can because as soon as you pass security it's like entering hell!

Why not pop up to London? There is always plenty of time to catch the Gatwick Express, which is a very good and efficient service. Then enjoy yourself in the capital, knowing that the Tube system will whizz you back to Victoria for the train in a jiffy.

You could always try Chav shooting in Crawley. They are not as fast as foxes, but atleast no-one will complain. Well perhaps the old bill, but then there is the 'Fastway' erhem i mean 'Slowway' bus from Gatwick to Crawley, which could serve as some form of get-away transport.
But I personally would try Brighton.
