Passengers Evacuate Southwest Plane At Burbank Airport

POSTED: 4:14 pm PST December 16, 2005
UPDATED: 4:37 pm PST December 16, 2005

BURBANK, Calif. -- Passengers evacuated from a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 Friday at the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank after a passenger on board allegedly made an inappropriate remark, according to an airport spokesman.

Passengers used a mobile staircase to leave from the jet's rear door.

The pilot reportedly stopped the plane as it was taxiing away from the terminal.

Authorities are now searching the aircraft.

Saw an item on the local LA news about that this evening. It seems, according to the KCBS news, a 25 year old man whose name was not released was heard by cabin crew uttering the word "bomb". The airplane was stopped on the taxiway and mobile stairs were positioned at the aft R/H cabin door. Pax deplaned and 5 men were detained. Four of the men were later released while the 25 year old man was retained in custody by police. After a search of the aircraft, it was pronounced "safe" by authorities. No devices were found. The flight was re-boarded and continued to Las Vegas, NV later in the evening. A couple of pax milling about the terminal were put in front of the camera to say how little they minded the interruption.... Since 9/11...blah... blah....

Looks like another thoughtless jerk who can't keep his pie-hole shut instigated the expected response to the use of that word on an airplane. A shame it's come to this these days, but that's the way it is.
