Swiss airlines and EU passenger rights
Are airlines on a Swiss AOC that are granted passenger rights between EU destinations obliged to give compensation to passengers subject to delays and cancellation as per the Feb 17 rules, as happens with airlines with a EU AOC?
My reading = yes. Here is a PDF of the leaflet issued by the EU.
It depends on the nationality of the airline and the board/off points. EU (and Swiss) carriers have to abide by the rules for all their flights. Non-EU carriers have to abide when the board point is in the EU:
1. This Regulation shall apply:
(a) to passengers departing from an airport located in the territory
of a Member State to which the Treaty applies;
(b) to passengers departing from an airport located in a third
country to an airport situated in the territory of a Member
State to which the Treaty applies, unless they received
benefits or compensation and were given assistance in that
third country, if the operating air carrier of the flight
concerned is a Community carrier.

Onece you bord an a/c in the EU or bord outside the EU but you are going to the EU..you are entitled to the pax rights no matter where the a/c is registered or to which company it belongs. So if you fly on DL from ATL-LON ,,you are covered the same as flying BA from LON-ROM.
