Diamonds in the Sky

About 20 years ago, Julian Pettifer presented a TV series titled "Diamonds in the Sky", which looked at some of the upsides of pax flying, including special experiences.

Yesterday evening, I was fortunate enough to be given a little diamond.

Coming into LCY, the commander decided to execute a very late go around, which then mandated a circuit to position for another approach.

This involved a low level flight over east London/Essex, with perfect views of the Dome, Thames Barrier, QE2 bridge and old Father Thames with the evening sunlight sparkling on the waters.

I reflect that we are truly priviliged to have these occasional experiences, since flying is a relatively modern phenomenom.

But I doubt that the flight deck crew were quite so impressed as they had to do some high intensity flying and re-run the checklist on the 146 in a short space of time.
