Question Is it still possible ........

.... to get a seat in the cockpit for take off or landings?

If so, whats the best way to approach the airline staff to maximise your chances?

Yes, it is possible...

On a trip last week, my wife approached the cabin crew and requested that the Captain might allow me to join him on the flight deck.
I was then taken to the flight deck for the last hour of the flight and the landing..which was an alternate. After waiting for the weather to clear, I again was invited to the flight deck for take-off, flight and landing at our intended destination.

There you are....simple.

Just remember that you are asking the crew to break the rules.
