Baggage Question

If I travel with my wife on a BA 747 to New York and I have a case that weighs over 22 Kilos, but she doesn't have any baggage other than hand luggage, will I be pemnalised for being overweight or can I offset it on her ticket?

You can pool your luggage allowance. You are usually allowed a little bit over the top too.

Always check your ticket for your baggage allowance because it clearly states on the ticket how much you can take. Hand baggage and hold baggage are two seperate allowances. They cannot be used together. If you are traveling as a pair or in a group, your baggage weight will be pooled together so there is less chance of having to pay excess. 32kgs is the maximun weight for any one bag!! If you are over 32kgs you will have to take things out to reduce the weight.

the piece concept is actually 2 pieces per person at no more than 32kgs per piece. you can't pool weight on this. ie if you had five pieces at 20kgs between two you would be charged at extra piece rate, and it ain't cheap!

Bags over 32 (not 22) kg not allowed via LHR - baggage handlers won't wear it due health and safety etc.

All major charter airlines have the same policy now all bags must be 32kg or under. The trans atlantic ones nearly always allow 2 pcs of baggage per person but it is important you check your ticket some still only allow 20kgs per person regardless of pieces.
