Thrilled! Overjoyed!! Enraptured!! You know, RD, it actually crossed my mind today at DTW. I just walked in the door from a trip myself!! Now you know the way to do it from now on!!!!! Donna
Too mean to buy a long personal title
Romeo Delta: What also worried me was flaps full and gear down at 15 NM from Tokyo, leading to high nose pitch and high engine power for about 5 minutes while on approach. Not going to say I was in fear for my life, but I'd never seen it done that way before (and I've flown 500,000 miles as pax). Boy, did I breathe a sigh of relief when we finally reached the glideslope and pitched down to a more decent angle.
Thanks for reporting back.
I can imagine a number of scenarios that would require that configuration. Respectfully, you don't have the information to properly assess the actions of the crew. I have much more than 500,000 miles in airliners. If I was in the back and experienced what you did, it likely wouldn't cause any consternation.

There's always one in every crowd... Whatever...
"I fly Delta a lot, and every time we go inverted on final I've got no worries..."
Okay.
From the point of view of the PASSENGER, it was an uncomfortable situation. Having been an aviation major in college, I know a thing or two about how the BIFs work (although I will admit to not being current on 743 ops, especially as they pertain to Korean Air). Sure, there are probably any number of reasons why things happened like they did, but to be told that it was a training crew, and as many times as people have said "Why would you EVER fly Korean?" it sticks in your mind. If it was just a test, they, hey, keep it in the simulator. If not, well, then, good work to the pilots who kept things together, but I swore we were going to "back in" to NRT.
Like I always say, though, "Any landing where you don't have to use the slide is a good landing." Good thing, too, as I was sitting in the upper deck on that flight.

Fine attitude. Learn a little more before you critique the professionals up front. If your that afraid of an airline, don't fly it.

Is that supposed to be some parody?

West Coast,
If you'll re-read that post, you'll see I intimated that you were right. I guess being right takes a backseat to needing to feel superior to us lowly passengers in the back (which thus prompted the "Whatever..."). If you'd taken a different tone, and maybe given an example to us poor unknowing passengers (much as a good teacher might have), I probably wouldn't have responded as I did.
There is a whole lot I was going to say, but I'm not going to start a flame war with you (what good would that do?). Life is too short, and I'm sure we both have better things to do. I'm perfectly willing to let this thread pass on into oblivion, especially since the event that started this thread is about 3 weeks old (and was all about PASSENGER comfort on NW flights, for which Donna did a great job answering my questions).
If you have a burning desire to get the last word in, feel free. I'm off to better things (like Las Vegas!).
RD
Former wannabe, relegated to the back...
And BTW, yes, that was parody in my previous post...
