How to annoy SLF

Yesterday watergate flew Copenhagen/London/Copenhagen on a Maersk Air flight.
No cheap ticket there - DKK4055 or abt. GBP350, but still watergate had to pay for his cup of coffee !
Have the "regular" airlines now adopted the policy of the low-cost airlines - without the low cost though? or is it just Maersk trying to make a few extra kroner before they go bust?

Answer in Europe in my experience yes - see my previous comments on 'Does BA have An Attitude Problem' thread - pax paying full fare(ish) tariffs will not be happy with LCC service yet this is what BA for example are doing on European services. If we wish to go LCC then we make that choice, we dont pay good money on a supposed Full Service Carrier to get LCC service

Just make me wait all day for a flight CPH=>BHX on Thursday last week, using 5cm snow as an excuse. Thanks SAS.

That'll do it - SLF

SLF, its unfair to flame an airline for that - You should flame the UK airports for that. All the southern UK airports were affected. BA made me wait 4hrs in MAN before cancelling the flight. I dont blame BA, but the airport authorities who decided it wasn't worth having snow removal equipment on standby during the wintertime. Numerous threads have covered this.

FWIW BA is suing the BAA for the fiasco at their airports. The damages being sought are around £1m (probably a lot less than the costs BA sustained in having aircraft and crews out of position, passengers stranded in the four corners of the UK etc etc)

Apparently, at LHR the runways and taxiways were cleared of snow but not the parking stands - so aircraft were still unable to move!

At LGW, the BAA boasted that the runway would need to close, but they had enough plant and equipment on stand-by to get it fully operational in 45 minutes. It was, in reality, closed for two hours causing widespread diversions and cancellations!

So, a repetition of last year's old cobblers! How the people North of the Border must laugh at us - and the long-range Met boys tell us we'll probably have another cold snap at the end of February / beginning of March!!!

Extract from BBC News

BA wants compensation over snow

Airports on the continent are more used to dealing with snow
British Airways says it is seeking £1m in compensation from airports operator BAA for failing to keep Heathrow open during Wednesday night's snow.
The airline had to cancel around 100 flights because of the snow, and claims that BAA failed in its responsibility to grit aircraft stands.

A spokesman for British Airways said its senior executives would be meeting to discuss the matter.

Wednesday's heavy snow caused a number of airports around the UK to close.

At Bournemouth Airport around 500 passengers were stranded in the terminal, or were forced to spend the night in a hotel, after their flights were diverted from London Stansted.

Flapsup, the suspicion is that these cancellations were for economic reasons, my understanding is that BHX was clear on Thursday am and 7cm snow in CPH is not a problem there.

However, I'm pretty relaxed about delays and cancellations, and my reply was partly tongue in cheek due to the thread title

I may load myself on to the plane but I sure as hell don't like to be described as 'freight'. Even worse since I'm not one of these rich pludocrats who has too much money to burn so I normally have to contend with travelling in 'cattle class'.

How would you feel if you were being described as a 'freight cow', I ask you that!

I sometimes long for the old days where I basked in the naivity of not knowing the reality of how aviation personnel speak about their customers

If you don't like to be called freight then how about payload?
In every aviation weight (sorry mass) and balance exam, the term payload is used. Whether that payload is passengers or freight is a minor detail.
The term isn't used as a derogatory thing except when they can't get themselves to the gate ontime. I quite happily call myself SLF when I am paxing, it's no big deal. Also I sit in cattle class too.
Oh and isn't that term offensive to you?
Every profession has it's little terms of endearment to those that actually pay us. I am sure computer folk have charming terms for newbies. Oh there's one. What about the medical profession? They have some doozies for patients. Let's not even think what the Police call us.
It does pay to remember that you are in an aviation site. If I wandered into a professional musicians website and got all hissy about being called a punter I am sure I would be told to get lost. Even though I pay to buy their CD's and buy concert tickets.
You would have every right to be upset if the cabin crew and the flight crew addressed you as Self Loading Freight while you are at the airport or on the aircraft. However, this is our down time. Our rest and recreation. It's like a bunch of us are sitting at the bar having a chuckle and a laugh about our work. (us being check in staff, FA's, ATCO's, engineers, loadies and dare I say it, pilots)
Believe me, forklift loaded freight gives us a lot less grief than self loaded freight. It isn't drunk. It's not trying to sneak a smoke in the toilets. It isn't late to the gate other than due traffic. It isn't distracted by the bright coloured shops. It doesn't abuse the staff. It's x-rayed without a murmur. Make absolutely no demands on any one and stays put when strapped in. Doesn't argue about how much it can carry on. Never forgets their passport. Never demands an upgrade. Doesn't use the mobile phone whilst checking in. Never says a smart arse remark about a bomb to the check in staff. The list is long. Now, before you have a massive hiss at me, I have flown both freight AND pax. Both have plusses and minusses.

The one thing I really miss is having pax visit the flight deck.

Corr Reddo

You're in a serious mood today. So whah if I ain't keen on being called SLF, it wasn't supposed to be taken that seriously. I don't actually spend my days worrying about it or even think about when boarding or travelling on a plane. My comments were mean't in a lighthearted way. Okay I admit it when I did come on the site initially the expression came as a surprise to me but I don't lose any sleep over it.

Sorry if you were offended by my post. Phew!

Just a form of speech luv. That's the idea of the smilies at the top of my post & in the post, notice to give other posters the intentions behind my post, I mean come off it 'freight cow' how could anyone take a post with that in it seriously

I can guarantee you if I was that peeved off by it different smilies would have been used. I've honestly alot more serious issues to be concerned about in life than to place that much emphasis on what nicknames airline personel have for me, honestly, I promise!

Best be keeping me trap shut in future. Obviously I've a weird sense of humour!

I don't think you'd miss me. I don't think you could comprehend my wicked sense of humour, I used to have a veritable slagging match with the pilots up there be times & believe me the humour I used was far wickeder than anything I use here. I mean a skull & crossbones, honestly, anyone could see it was OTT.

Cricky it's like having a judge, jury & executioner rolled all into one. Now give it a rest luv will you & stop taking it so seriously, I wouldn't like us to fall out over such a silly issue. Ta!

Thanks surely not, I'm a she BTW

So next time you choose to fire off post about drinking, speeding drivers, cleavage shots at bashes and just about any thing else I can quote this? You have used this very same attitude to a number of posts over the years.
Methinks it is you who should stop taking this all so seriously.
