RYANAIR - Inaugural flight to Erfurt

Great to make your acquaintance. Hope your article in the Erfurt newspaper is a success and that we may meet again one day.
Diana and I really enjoyed our 24 plus hours in your fine city which has so much to offer the British tourist in terms of architecture and culture. The hotel was comfortable, the food superlative and the people most friendly. Saint Mary's cathedral truly lived up to its reputation as one of the finest in the world and I hope the choir structure rebuilding is complete when we return one day.
The flight out and back was totally acceptable, especially being FREE. We had a female captain on our trip back who disproved every taunt directed at the opposite sex as pilots when Hannah caressed the concrete on arrival at Stansted in windy conditions. If she makes love as well as she lands Boeing 737's she is a real treasure. Most of my landings are survivable but only my dentist knows the truth though my Boeings are A75 Stearman - 450 horsepower - biplanes of somewhat older vintage. I still well remember that fantastic flight in the "Crunchie" Stearman wing walking airplane to the Zwickau "Flugfest" back in 1997.
I did tell you about our German fallschirmjager friend who died recently and was buried at 1400 GMT or 1500 Erfurt time on Friday. We had hoped to be at the funeral here in our village but the trip to Germany was too great a temptation. His favourite food from his homeland was the bratwurst and at exactly 1400 GMT I was enjoying a plateful complete with sauerkraut in a small restaurant just off the Domplatz. I hope he was joining me in spirit as he would have relished it.
If you are ever in the UK for enough time to come up to our home some 130 kilometres north of London or about 110 kilometres northwest of Stansted do please let us know. By train it is quite easy and fairly fast to get to our closest Rail station at Peterborough. We can always give you a bed for a couple of nights and Diana's cooking is great.

PS - Thanks to all at RyanAir for making it possible and for your efforts in bringing down air fares in Europe to an affordable level for an OFFA like me.
PPS - OFFA is the Old Flying Farts Association made up of "senior citizens" who still hold a pilots licence and thoroughly enjoy their flying. I now have an NPPL(SEP) plus a UK Display Authorisation and DAE approval but I did hold AT/208180F/A and FIE/208180F/GB plus an FAA CPL(SMEL) and a Russian PPL prior to a mild cardiac infarction back in 1999. All well now but my JAR-MED Class 1 is a thing of the past - sod it..................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad you enjoyed yer trip Barry - and don't stop entertaining all of us real aviation enthusiasts. Stearman will always be one of the best the factory produced IMHO.

Ah a soft landing with FR, that must be a talking point in itself, haven't enjoyed one of them in a while, exciting yes, soft no! I must get all the novice, just out of their nappies, spotty faced pilots landing the planes I'm on & I AM a FR fan!

Well my next "unmentionable"Air flight is to Charleroi from Stansted on 19 February departing O'dark early so we shall see. Having had numerous airframe driver mark 1 on many 737 trips over the years they have all been great in that we survived however one hamfisted BA driver once caused every one of the overhead lockers to open on a bone crunching arrival at LHR. I did offer my condolences to the captain with the comment that perhaps he should wait for an empty sector before allowing the senior stwewardess another try...................!!!!!!!! He grinned and had the grace to apologise.
My comment on RyanAir and indeed all the low cost carriers is sincerely offered since it has made airline flying affordable for my wife and I. My grateful thanks to you all.

No - I got TRAPPER through application to ICAO for Tempest Aviation 'cos i was an FIE for 27 years and the CAA airshow boss for 12 years. I also have REAPER for Armageddon Airshows and that is quite apocalyptic. 69 as a suffix is 'cos I care not whether flying erect or inverted though I have found it hard to be both..!!!
On one occasion I was taking a zone transit with Brize and called them as Trapper 69. A cut glass English rose female ATC voice came through the earphones "Good afternoon Trapper 69 - I bet I know which service you require".
I settled for Flight Information. Sod it.......................!!!!!!!!!!!
