Virgin a/c type and layout for SFO

Good afternoon all

I'm finally getting the chance to fly to SFO with Virgin. The tickets are for Premium Economy but I've no idea what aircraft are used on the route nowadays. I presume it'll be a 747-400 rather than a A340-3/600. If so, I understand there are two different seating arrangements on the 747 so do VS tend to use a particular layout on the SFO? The reason I ask is on one, all these seats are on the upper deck (I think) and presumeably these a bit quieter both traffic and engine wise compared to the lower deck by the leading edge?

Thanks

Gatman

SFO is always on the 747-400, seating plan for Premium is 2 seats. Would definitely recommend sitting upstairs as it is more private and quiet. Enjoy San Fran!

Hi gatman,

On the SFO route, VS sohuld use the 747-400 (2) as on this link

http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/our_s..._fleet.view.do

with 70-71 on the Upper deck( just behind Upper Class) and 75-77 on the main deck

Choose the upper deck. The window seats have side sotrage bins also.

The 747-400(1) aircraft are used from LGW.

Regards

Hi gatman,

You can try calling Virgin Reservations just now and try to prebook a seat on the Upper Deck.

I think seat prebooking opens 180 days prior to flight and can prebook upto around 60% of the seats ( the rest are for airport check in on the day of departure)

The exit rows ( 70& 75 on the LHR 747-400's) can only be allocated on the day of departure.
