That's unfortunately what's normally expected from Avmed these days. Not only do they buck-pass all their decision-making to "specialists" (who in many cases don't want to make a decision either, but are very happy to take your money because, after all, you're making squillions as a pilot, right?!?) but they hold veto powers over the "specialists" recommendations anyway.. and can (and do) quite literally tell you you're out of a job with no reason or remedy at all. In any other sophisticated country you might think they're asking for a bribe.. but they can't legally accept those either over here, so that leaves you stuffed, high and dry. After years of this it seems to me that Avmed now runs entirely on "who you know".. and that's hardly "safe" is it?

Funny you mention that. We got lasered only just last night abeam Morwell on the way back to YMMB via YLTV.. but that was in a Cessna. The moron was almost right beneath us so I doubt I'd have noticed in my Piper. Low Wings Forever!!! :ok:

Yours is a typical story, jonkster. Typical damaging Avmed overreach where all that was achieved was the imposition of stress and cost on you, for no substantial change in the objective risk to the safety of air navigation. Feels good to be an Avmed guinea pig, doesn't it? And I'll bet my bottom dollar that your circumstances don't count as a 'refusal' for the purposes of the statistics that CASA dishes up.

I've been there, done that. Avmed only backed down when there was the prospect of them being embarrassed about their decision based on "psuedo-science". Not my word, but that of Australia's foremost expert in the field. But when we're dealing with an organisation which lets smooth PR folk play amateur nephrologist at Estimates, we shouldn't expect much more.

You are correct on food poisoning. And - yet - there is not a single sentence in the complex, convoluted and ever-growing regulatory mess that deals specifically with the service of food to crew before and during duties. That's because a ham sandwich and an orange juice don't look scary.

Yep, same. But the majority, CASA, overruled the minority, my cardioligist. But apparently the majority:

If you think you know better than the majority of experts, you’re just an an angry, arrogant idiot.
should be believed whatever the cost, because, you know, the majority are always right.

Happily have a beer with you one day, why let a difference of opinion stop a good social beer session :-)

Mate, I'm very good company. People think I'm an angry, arrogant person, but really I'm a massive !!!! stirrer, bit of a **** sometimes, in a good way of course.

I do know that you don’t cherry pick ‘the science’ to match your ideology, as the good senator has a habit of doing.

If you’re not an expert in a field, you go with whatever the consensus is. If you think you know better than the majority of experts, you’re just an an angry, arrogant idiot.

If that had even the slightest hint of validity we would still be believing Genesis and not Charles Darwin, then DNA, RNA etc etc - even now the majority appear to believe in the Bible.
