Vale John Simon
And now another one.
John Simon, ex Talair and Air Niugini, passed away from a ruptured duodenal ulcer in Cairns Base Hospital. The ranks continue to thin. |
Wow!
My first flight in PNG was a ride with John to Fane in the Otter. He wasn't that much older than me! |
oh so sorry i knew Simmo before and after PX
|
I always enjoyed working with him. He had an interesting sense of humour.
|
One of my first flights with Simmo in ANG required me to make the PA with a windup toy doing its thing.......RIP John.
|
Sad news. Has anyone got a photo of Simmo they can put up?
He wasn't at PX when I was there, however I'm sure I've had a few SPs with him at the dero and the old airways 215 before I joined PX. Got any War Hawk? Plugga |

29 Gus Swinbourne If so, lovely quiet modest bloke who let me fly the Neptune from the RH seat while he was doing continuation training at Richmond. I was there at the time with a Lincoln after completing an anti-submarine exercise off the coast in association with a Neptune crew. |

In my Dz and later Simbu days I met and drank with at the Club Dero, more that a few ANG pilots and not one of them did I ever take a disliking to!:= What they may have thought of me is another question....:hmm: Each and every single one of them were someone that you'd be proud to have known. I just wish I'd taken more piccies, and paid more attention to recording names etc way back then.:( Was great fun, back taim bilong then.... |

Andrew
Capt Andrew was well liked.
He had a great personality. Was a Dad, Husband and friend to a great many. I personally spent many hours with him in the final days. God willing, he is at rest now. Cheers Andrew from ya mates In Subic bay. You will not be forgotten. From the great land downunder................... |
Macca!
Had the pleasure to do a few hours with Andrew just before my Dash command upgrade. Taught me a few things, tough man sometimes but he had a heart of gold. His technical knowledge and ability to fly the Dash 8 was second to none. Also great to have 50 beers with. |
Sadly I never had the chance to repay Andrew for all the beers and wisdom he shared with me on many deployments.
|
.... and back to the man this thread is about....
Great memories of John and his quirky sense of humour. The wind up toy and his attempts to enlighten a rugby boy on the game of aerial ping-ping ( afl ) came flooding back. A gentleman joker, missed by many. |
