PPrune appearance
Starting today I seem to have lost all the formatting in PPrune. No other website seems to be affected. Is it my computer or PPrune? I had ten auto-updates downloaded last night, so am I alone or is it happenong to other people? My browser is IE7. Comments pls

Bentleg,
the biggest mistake a Windoze user can do is have automatic updates turned on. Take a look here before you apply any updates from Micro$oft: http://www.askwoody.com :} |
I seem to be in the same boat bentleg. No other websites affected and don't recall any automatic updates since last night either (but memory gets a bit hazy after a couple of reds on a Friday night....)

Tid
I seem to be having the same prob. Auto updates are off. No recent updates to this computer.......Started today.

Add me to the list as well. Anyone know how to fix it.

Bentleg.
There has been a problem with PPRuNe for the past few weeks (or months) - see HERE. The geeks that talk funny have been working around the clock to try to identify and rectify the problems - hence the site was down for maintenance around 10.00 am AEST this morning. Not that I understand these computer things, but I believe four servers are currently carrying the load and if you log onto the crook one, you may get something like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../TimeOut-1.jpg (Yeah, I know, in frustration I made some modifications....... :{ ) If you find the site very slow or times out, or if you get "Database error" or the forum looks "strange":
Apologies from PPRuNe. Hopefully the problems will be fixed soon. I've long since given up on IE7 at home. I use Mozilla Firefox - vastly superior. Tail Wheel |
Tried Tailwheel suggestion. No difference. The Clear Cookies worked, because I had to login again as the login cookie had been lost......Does anyone NOT have this problem and if so what browser?(Edited to remove formating not recognised while this problem applies)

As I understand the problem, no browser is immune as it is a site server problem.
From the Boss Geek: As I had mentioned previously we were able to set up monitoring from various areas around the globe and across each unit of a page download. We've been tracking it all week and it's been very insightful. Though at times the site does hum along, there are also clearly times where it is dragging its tail, especially in Europe (especially in France!). The primary culprit is what is known as "first byte download", which could be a number of things. We've been testing a couple of different ideas but have yet to crack it. Then unfortunately today we got snagged by a completely different problem around connectivity with our firewall (Pprune wasn't alone with this one). Luckily the team dug in and solved this one but it took most of the day. Tomorrow the team will concentrate once again on the "first byte download" issue which we think is really a combination of multiple issues -- auto redirects, file sizes and compression, apache configuration, persistent connections, location of servers, etc. Each of these potential solutions requires tweaking, testing, tweaking and testing and so the fix is not going to be immediate but we do have a TEAM of people working on this. We also think that there is some erroneous interaction taking place between the ad system and the vBulletin software that may be the culprit of our notorious timestamp issues, so we're actively exploring solutions for that as well. |
Thank you. A PPrune problem. I suspected so.

I'm using Windoze 2000 with Firefox 3.0 and optusnet cable, no problems whatsoever (touch wood)

A big, big thank you to admin 1. I sent a brief email concerned that my computer was cactus and he promptly returned a reply stating it was PPRUNE and not my computer. He later sent me another email advising to delete the contents of the Temp Internet Files and all would be OK.
Now, that is service :ok: JT |
