Absolutely! The pilot having the job to worry about, and the unique stresses of GA operations, as well as life in general are usually enough to fill any young CPL pilots plate.. Of course they shouldn't have to worry about the other stuff such as business, but it should always be considered.

Well I am glad I don't know anyone who would start an engine in those circumstances - if there's one thing working in multiple industries has taught me, there's bad apples everywhere, but don't let that define everyone and paint 'all' with the same brush, such as NT ops which carry their own unique challenges such as the heat (which no doubt makes a long day seem much longer, and tiring)... Unfortunately there isn't much in the fatigue rules about temperature... I guess all the hobnobs who wrote it think all aircraft have air conditioning... I absolutely understand how on a 45+ Celcius day from dawn to dusk non-stop and pumping your own avgas feels...... And guess what - skydiving being private ops, there was "no limit" to hours... And "no job" if you had to stop...

Anyway, this is something the construction industry worked out a while ago, where if it's above 35 degrees for example certain provisions are made for breaks / shade / hydration / rotate workers etc...

It would be nice if aviation had the maturity to recognise some of these aspects, and realise that people are human beings - not machines.

I have not worked for the operator that is insinuated here, so do not know the particulars... But the aircraft always looked like they were well maintained when we would fly into JAB, which would be of a far, far bigger concern to me with GA ops... I am sure that is something we can all agree on... So im sure it's not all bad, I am sure there's some good aspects too.

You summed up the operator quite nicely in that paragraph. I'm sorry, but there is no defending this "operator". He/Him/They/It should be in prison, and i'm not even talking about aviation related offences.



The truth is they did purposely start an engine with someone's head next to it. Plenty of witnesses to this event, internally and externally.

He refused any assistance all morning. Anyone who reset a cabin, tried to assist with paperwork, help with aircraft preparation were all screamed at to stop. He had in his mind that no one was there to help him, and he was trying to prove a point that he was capable of all tasks on his own. Pilots were told they were not worthy of being in the presence of a "20,000 hour pilot" and that they were all useless and worthless.

A few days prior, his advances and marriage proposal to a line pilot was rejected (and rejected multiple times, after he kept trying and pushing the matter after the initial no)

So yes, when a line pilot did try to assist with preparing his aircraft for a subsequent departure, he refused this help. He refused this help by jumping into the aeroplane and turning the propeller and immediately taxiing over to the fuel bowser. With a pilot standing dangerously close.

This is all consistent with this "operators" pattern of behavior. Genuinely, a breakdown as described above every 6 months. How the "operator" holds a medical is beyond me. The day that is revoked, the day the industry is better off.

They had a Brisbane base walk out. A few years prior to that, other staff members leaving a well known NT operator because of unwanted advances by the same "operator". And then their removal from the defence force for attempts made to a minor? There is no defending this operator.

It's pretty hard to tell from looking at them the handful of times you went there, to what kind of condition they are in. Fresh paint job doesn't mean well looked after engines. They could have had cable ties on their drive shafts..

A fresh paint job would be a good indicator as to the rest of the aircraft condition.. paint is usually left till last... but that's not why you decided to post, so we will get to the point, i'll bite:

A harmless "click click click" noise from a plastic ziptie rotating on a drive shaft.... old friendly harmless trick we used to play on each other in other industries... and I told him after he drove like 10 meters before he left the carpark - old mate could dish out jokes but didn't like being on the receiving end... anyway... he went and had a cry... despite only hours earlier coming in to go "HA HA PARKED YOU IN SUCKA"..... resulting in me losing my job... It's in the same 'slight inconvenience' category as having one of your wiper blades lifted up... Or one of your mirrors pushed in...

I reckon this is all becoming a bit too rumourous... if they haven't already, the people who were allegedly underpaid/rostered over FDP limits/sexual assaulted etc should go to FWC or whatever authority so due process can take place and the facts can be established.

A repcon report was submitted, unfortunately capt frizzles just redirected it all the the ex cheif pilot to explain to the authorities. The cheif pilot was subsequently offered an engagement ring along with a romantic night in a Darwin hotel which in turn lead to the start of some of the above mentioned incidents.

Just want to confirm that the night in a hotel and the marriage proposal was between 2 blokes?

It'd be a bit hard to have a female in the situation when the company does not employ female pilots. If you come through the GA Ready course as a female and they would like to employ you, you'll head up to Marthakal on Elcho Island. The Jabiru operation is strictly male only pilots.

Nothing wrong at all with that in itself however the predatory behaviour / approach, and the refusal to accept any answer other than yes was completely inappropriate.

When the realisation finally sank in though, the events discussed earlier in the thread happened.

Runway overrun
 

Time to bring this thread back to life, I hear down the grape vine this operator recently had a runway overrun at a certain airport a few miles north of their main base and they’ve swept it under the rug hoping no one would notice. Anyone able to confirm if this is true or just rumours?

I noticed they've recently hired their first female pilot in the history of the company. They made a big song and dance about it on their social media. Good to see the company bowing to peer pressure from this pprune. Hopefully their safety record will do the same.
