Aero club Christmas party?

KRviator 16th Dec 2020 02:54

The discovery led police to raid several residential properties and storage sheds across north Brisbane as part of Operation Romeo Mugwort.
Operation Romeo Mugwort? WTF is that? A Harry Potter reference or something?

At least they didn't have some copper with his arms in the prop arc and service weapon drawn this time!

Not the first time using an Aerostar. Anyone here from Tamworth in the mid to late 80's? Nice green Aerostar with very long range tanks -)

Capt Fathom 16th Dec 2020 09:24

Do tell us more Machtuk. Very intrigued!

Clare Prop 16th Dec 2020 09:35

I remember a similar bust at Jandakot about 15? years ago, an Aztec. Then there was the hangar whose roof blew off when the meth lab inside exploded...

compressor stall 16th Dec 2020 10:42

One used to do Griffith Moorrabbin in the early 90s IIRC. Got caught.

Checkboard 16th Dec 2020 10:43

One did, did one? How long did one get in prison, compressor stall? :E

Squawk7700 16th Dec 2020 11:05

The Police used to use Aerostar’s for transporting their “clients” interstate a long time ago. Just sayin’...

Lookleft 16th Dec 2020 23:23

Flying the Aerostar is the closest thing a working GA pilot gets to "strapping on an airplane".

Because it is an absolute beast! One type I’ve never flown but lucky enough to have been in.

According to this guy, the Aerostar isn’t the “best” drug running aeroplane.

2 hours of fascinating stories of nefarious activities.

A previous owner of the aircraft in question has expressed concern at his name and address being published in this thread.

Take note - the CASA Register for this aircraft is not correct, it has not been updated after a sale some time ago.

DO NOT QUOTE THE CofR HOLDER FROM THE CASA WEB SITE, IN THIS PPRUNE THREAD!! :uhoh:

Bodie1 20th Dec 2020 03:38

Old mate that got busted is/was a ppruner, wonder if he's cruising these pages whilst he hasn't got a lot to do? ;)

Yup, newborn with sibling.

Yep, they can't just seize it now, innocent til proven guilty and all that! You probably covered that in week 3 or 4? Although, they'll want to keep a good eye on it, that thing has got long legs ;)

The “innocent until proven guilty” saying, is for the naive general public. On the other side of the fence, if they have bothered to take action, they believe you are already guilty. That’s why we have 12 sensible and hopefully impartial citizens to bring back the balance to the equation.

With the current Mokbel situation, seizing property is a complex task where a crystal ball is required, especially if a finding gets set aside some 10 years later and it may have to be given back again...!

The Townsville Bulletin article, is behind a paywall.

A pilot charged with drug trafficking hm flown from Radcliffe Airport in a plane that police seized last week, after $1 million in cash, guns and cannabis were allegedly found on board.

Acting Inspector Ken Rogers said police still planned to apply to confiscate the Piper Aerostar under proceeds of crime laws, but the plane was no longer restrained.

Townsville pilot Mark Nolan was granted bail in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday, after spending several days in custody, charged with drug trafficking.

The ex-soldier also was charged with receiving or obtaining property obtained from drug trafficking, possessing drugs and weapons charges.

He had to surrender his passport and weapons, live at a Townsville address and not approach an international departure point. Police had opposed bail, fearing he may flee the jurisdiction, as he had previously flown to Papua New Guinea, the court heard.

The plane was seen leaving Reclcliffe Airport around 6am on Tuesday and its departure was reported to the ajrport’s reporting officer, after initial concerns that the departure was unscheduled.

Police had opposed hail, fearing he may flee the jurisdiction, as he had previously flown to Papua New Guinea, the court heard.

The plane was seen leaving Redeliffe Airport around 6am on Tuesday and its departure was reported to the airport’s reporting officer, after initial concerns that the departure was unscheduled.

"A big guy with tattoos walked in around 6am, unplugged the plane and just flew off,“ a witness said.

Acting Inspector Rogers said the pilot was in lawful possession of the plane as it was no longer restrained and he had been released on bail.

He said the plane was being flown to Townsville, with a stop in Bowen.

"He has a right to have the plane," Acting Insp Rogers said.

He said police had been aware that Nolan intended to fly the plane back to Townsville, but were not aware that he would be leaving as early as 6am.

Acting Insp Rogers said police were still working on the process of applying to confiscate the plane, alleging it was proceeds of crime.

Nolan was one of 14 people charged as a result of Operation Mugwort, including three arrested after the plane flown from Melbourne landed at Redcliffe.

Acting lnsp Rogers said police were still working on the process of applying to confiscate the plane, alleging it was proceeds of crime.

Nolan was one of 14 people charged as a result of Operation Mugwort, including three arrested after the plane flown from Melbourne landed at Redcliffe Airport on December 14.

A search of the plane allegedly uncovered $1 million in cash and cannabis with a street value of $3.5 million, as well as guns, police said.

Search warrants were then carried out on houses and storage sheds across Brisbane's north and another$1.5 million in cash and a “substantial" amount of cannabis were cliscovered.

The raids were part of Operation Mugwort, which has seen $8.5 million in cash, weapons, ammunition, cocaine and cannabis seized.

The court was told that Nolan was “a lesser player" than others who had been charged with drug trafficking and other offences.

Nolan, who was a serving soldier for 16 years, has a home, a wife and children in Townsville.

I reckon it's a bit more than 'just for the naive public'

Duck Pilot 24th Dec 2020 09:46

Interesting that the pilot had an association with PNG, if it’s true. Maybe connected to the VH-TSI bust?
