Aviation bureaucracy and executives’ pay – compare this to GA
 

In another thread I mentioned the Wikipedia entry on former Transport Minister John Anderson. (The one who claims that the money spent on aviation safety does not have to be affordable)

Below are some figures of former aviation Ministers and people currently involved in aviation. Compared to GA, they are doing very well.

I notice that for some reason the Wikipedia entry on John Andersen doesn’t mention that shortly after retirement, he became Chairman of the Eastern Star Gas Limited. Some of the other ex-National Party Ministers for Transport have done OK too.

For example, Mark Vaile is listed in Wikipedia as Chair of Virgin Australia (incorrect, see below), Chair Whitehaven Coal, Chair Regional Investment Fund of Palisade Investment Partners plus other Palisade subsidiaries, Director Hostplus Superannuation (appointed by Australian Hotels Association), Director Servcorp, Director Stamford Land Corporation, Chairman 123Childcare (education provider in China).

Note that Wikipedia wrongly lists Mark Vaile as the Chairman of Virgin. If he were, he would be earning a benefit of $346,000 per year. However it looks as if he is presently an ordinary Director, where he would receive a total benefit of $204,000 per year.

Obviously the ex-Ministers can earn really good money in retirement, as well as their colossal super. They would certainly have to make sure that when they were Deputy Prime Ministers, they didn’t upset too many influential people in business!

So what do they earn before retirement? The Deputy Prime Minister (and Minister for Transport), Michael McCormack, earns $416,231 per annum.

By the way, here are a few other figures I have received. The Chairs of CASA (Jeff Boyd) and Airservices (Sir Angus Houston) are paid $114,540 per annum. The Deputy Chairs are paid $85,910 and the Board members are paid $57,270.

The Secretary of the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities (Steven Kennedy) who took over Mike Mrdak’s position, would be paid somewhere between $692,500 and $745,140.

The CEO of Virgin Australia, John Borghetti, earns $5,567,821 – yes, over $5.5 million dollars per year.

How do these compare to your GA pay?

We have long been in the bureaucratic Tsarist age, and we the av-peasants just have to cop it.
The taxpaying citizen needs to wonder...how come the DAs earns more than the PM ...WT...?
AWIs on twice the average salary of a workshop plod, can destroy someone with impunity.

"If you don't like it, get a better job!"

Unfortunately there is still much of Australia that would cease to function if everyone worked for money and not for love.
