Latrobe Valley YLTV airfield has just come online today...

http://webcamstorageaus.com/YLTV/showimage.php

Stay tuned for many more!

The main website is in the process of receiving a fresh new design.

Squawk7700 19th Apr 2018 07:21

Romsey is now up with a great view of Mt. Macedon.

Weather Cameras

Many more are still to come!

Squawk7700 25th Apr 2018 10:37

A very busy day today, we've had some new cameras come online...

Yarram down in South Gippsland, Victoria. Yarram Weather Cameras

Coongulla, a private strip near Lake Glenmaggie. Coongulla Weather Camera

Yarrawonga: Yarrawonga Weather Camera

A private strip next to the defunct Camperdown strip: Bookaar (Camperdown)

There are lots more coming soon as I always say!

They are all now available in OZRunways.

As always, feel free to contact me if you want to set one up at your airfield. This is a privately run very low cost project that is not commercial and not for profit, run by pilots for pilots. If you have Internet at your site, it may cost as low as $40 with zero on-going costs. If you don't have Internet, you're up for around $210. The Yarram example above is 2 x $40 cameras on a Telstra 4gx router $59 and a $150 Telstra data SIM giving a picture every 6 minutes on both cameras.

We have Heck Field at Jacobs Well coming online next week. All the gear has arrived, just got to install it.

For other importers or aviation professionals out there l just ponied up $250 for all the gear as a donation to the GCSFC including the first years internet costs for a 2 camera system.

Then each following year will only be $100 or whatever the data rates are at the time.

7700 it's a great idea and one i truly believe will save lives. If it just saves one life then its well worth it !

Thanks again for all the good info.

pjv1234 29th Apr 2018 05:23

I would like to set one up at my home strip
Squawk7700 . How do I contact you

Sure thing, great to hear!

You can email me [email protected] or PM me here.

If you have WIFI and 240 volts onsite, cameras are $40 each.

If you don't have WIFI, it's $220 for the router and data, then add up to perhaps 2 cameras as $40 each.

Send me a message and we could have you online in as little as a week.

Squawk7700 29th Apr 2018 23:18

If anyone else thinks that their flying school, charter business or maintenance facility may want some cameras, please let them know and or let me know and I'll give them a call!

I've got quite a few sites waiting for committee approval so it's going to rapidly expand very soon as the wheels turn slowly, especially when committee meetings are usually once a month at best.

Squawk7700 8th May 2018 00:30

Three new cameras have come online this week. Two on Flinders Island (Tasmania) and one at Wangaratta.

Weather Cameras

Next week we are aiming for an additional 12. with two cameras at Lethbridge Airpark (near Geelong), a second camera which will be at Wangaratta, Warrnambool will have two come online and one more at George Town. With any luck three new sites will also appear next week including Colac, Barwon Heads and Heck Field.

With some luck, hard work and coordination there will also be two new sites in Tasmania in the next few weeks.

Other than that there are lots in the pipeline still awaiting decisions from aero club committees and countil approvals.

The majority of the systems are running the low cost 1mp WIFI cameras on WIFI, with two of the current sites running Telstra 4GX routers with a data SIM on 365 day plans. Wangaratta have a 4mp POE setup but even that is a low cost setup at < $120 per camera, so it's very affordable.

Well done Squawk. You can justifiably know you have really made a difference in air safety.
Is there no Interest so far from anyone in Coldstream/Lilydale area of camera or 2 pointed at Mt Slide or Black Spur?

sdielectrical 8th May 2018 01:18

Thanks to a generous donation and good effort from locals there is now 2 cameras on top of a 10m post at Mittagong.

This area is a “critical locality” with high terrain and a typical pathway in and out of the Sydney basin.

These are good images showing terrain and windsock. Also available on Ozrunways.

I can't help in the short term with those two, however I'll meet you half way and give you two new cameras on Ozrunways by hopefully tomorrow. One overlooking Yan Yean reservoir from the north east and one from Glenburn pointing to the south west overlooking the Glenburn gap :-)

These new images come to us to use courtesy of a fellow pprune contributor that read the thread update today and offered his cameras, so thanks very much to that man and his company!

Re Lilydale - Management have said no to any cameras.

Coldstream are keen but currently have other priorities.

Thanks for the 2 new cameras and the fellow pprune contributor.
Jamie Doake (Landlord) at Coldstream is a great bloke and very keen to help in most things.

Perhaps ask Roger Merridew or his son if one could be fitted to their hangar?

Squawk7700 8th May 2018 08:32

They are the management :-)

I have no issue with anyone contacting them to help convince them it's a good idea, but I've tried a couple times and the idea made it to the management meeting and it was decided to not go ahead.

The Glenburn gap and Yan Yean cameras have just been added to Ozrunways so many thanks to the owner of those.

Again, because of this thread, we now have two more cameras coming online in a bit over a month at Lakes Entrance which will be great as that's a bit of a black hole down there at the moment.

Squawk7700 12th May 2018 23:56

Two new cameras have come online yesterday at Lethbridge which will be a welcome addition (pending addition to Ozrunways shortly).

Also on Friday we had two new cameras at a property with private strip at Scaddan in Western Australia.

The website is starting to become very useful to track the weather across Victoria as it comes in from the west. With Warrnambool fully up early this week and Colac coming very soon there will pretty much be a full line of cameras available from Warrnambool to Lakes Entrance.

We're also heading north with more near Wallan and are working on many more north of there.

We added a new domain name that's easier to remember.

We've recently added these weather cameras to AvPlan EFB as well. Nice work Squark7700!

rjtjrt 15th May 2018 04:09

Bevan
On Avplan, camera’s, some are black, some are red, some are green icons.
What is the meaning of these colours?

Bevan666 15th May 2018 04:26

If there is a METAR reporting station then we colour code the icons to match. Green == VFR, Blue == VFR but cloud less than 2500' and/or vis less than 10km. Yellow cloud less than 1000' or vis less than 5km. Red, cloud less than 500'.

Basically the same as we colour code the METARs

Lead Balloon 15th May 2018 04:27

Rj: The colour denotes the implications of the corresponding METAR.

Hi Bevan: Any chance of getting SDIElectrical’s cameras on AvPlan as well?

Squawk7700 15th May 2018 06:02

Check your PM's Bevan.

Yup, they are all there too, and the BoM ones plus a few more

Lead Balloon 15th May 2018 21:06

With time lapse to boot!

Bloody marvellous. Thanks Bevan.

rjtjrt 19th May 2018 00:20

Bevan
There seem to be a lot more cameras shown in Ozrunways, than are available through AVPLAN at the moment.

Bevan666 19th May 2018 13:44

Weve got a few more to add, but only adding ones which are currently online.

drnic 22nd May 2018 12:22

I truly appreciate the webcams via ozrunways. Thanks everyone.

Squawk7700 23rd May 2018 05:00

4 new cameras have hit the site today at http://Auswebcams.com and will find their way into your EFB provider in the near future.

They are at Horsham and are hosted by Horsham Aviation Services, with many thanks to Tony there for the go-ahead and Wendy for her in-depth IT knowledge to get them up and running so smoothly!

Squawk7700 23rd May 2018 13:12

It was suggested by a keen reader of this thread today that I add an overlay of a clear day picture.
The FAA has something similar on theirs, however it's not visible through an EFB, but rather only through their website.

Does anyone have any more suggestions better than this or in addition?

http://members.iinet.net.au/~bc75/YLDB.jpg

sdielectrical 24th May 2018 00:29

Good idea squawk

maybe we we could ask the EFB providers to add a clear day images as part of their loop. That way the viewer gets a look before it scrolls through the images of actual conditions.

rjtjrt 24th May 2018 00:38

One of my concerns is seeing out of date weather cam image and not realising it is not the current situation.
Even though it may be hard to do, even the smallest chance that someone will see a clear day image and not realise it is not in any way the current situation should be guarded against.

Edit: I don’t really see the need for a clear day option.
Keep it simple and clear, is the way to go. I reminded of the engineering maxim “better is the enemy of good enough”.

Squawk7700 24th May 2018 01:13

The Alaskan cameras page is really good as it displays the "clear day" shot next to the current image and details the high points and distance from the airport however this is through a browser so easier to muck around with. The issue for the EFB's is they generally only display a picture and you'd need a stack of mods to be able to do what the browser can do.

Lets see what the future holds. This feature is moreso for visitors rather than the locals and if you're worried about that level of detail, you're probably pushing your limits.

Squawk7700 31st May 2018 06:54

An update for this week.

Bridport (next to Barnbougle) at the top end of Tasmania has just come on-line and will be appearing on your chosen EFB very soon. Thanks to Flinders Island Aviation for hosting it.

Lots more are still to come !

Weather Cameras

We have also added the "clear view" picture for Lady Barron as a trial and will add it to other sites with terrain.

Well done Squawk.
That clear view at Lady Barron is ok. No chance (however remote) of confusing it with current situation.

More webcam’s just added to AVPLAN.
On first glance, looks like same now as shown in Ozrunways.
Hope they keep up in a timely way with new ones in future as they become available.
