Not a good week.

Absolutely horrid year for GA...

Taking a quick look at FlightRadar its clear what the aircraft was, but I won't post it publicly in case the family has yet to be told.

StickWithTheTruth 28th Oct 2017 07:37

2 POB deceased, what a terrible week.

Two people dead in light plane crash near Port Macquarie - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

It says Cessna, looks like a Cessna, but I'm not familiar with which model has VG's in front of the rudder.

I dunno, I reckon they've gotta come up with a better term then "crime scene"..:(

Dangerous spot up there. Always busy with student pilots. Used to fly the Q400 in there and remember it being a nightmare getting through on the CTAF with Taree and Port on the same freq.

john_tullamarine 28th Oct 2017 08:40

crime scene

Indicates that the police have secured/will secure the area to protect evidence and so forth. Procedural term rather than indicating a crime, per se.

LeadSled 28th Oct 2017 12:32

Not a fresh PPL type, so it seems.
All will be revealed sooner or later.

VGs on the fin....methinks an aerial.

Capt Fathom 28th Oct 2017 23:09

There are VGs there. It’s had a RAM conversion.

For those that aren't familiar with the area, there are two privately owned strips south of YPMQ.

The first is Camden Haven Airfield which you can almost see from the Pacific Highway. Then there is another a little bit further south which I think is 'The Lakes' ALA and if the article posted above is anything to go by the deceased owned that strip and the accident occurred near there.

RatsoreA 29th Oct 2017 00:54

That's not Grant Burley or Burlair fame is it?!

I think they said something about a Jones Lake strip on TV this morning. He may have taken off from there.
