Jepp Mobile FD for iPad
Has anyone tried the new JeppFD app? It adds enroute mapping to the terminal info available in JeppTC.
I am having trouble adding route details after selecting departure and destination airports. Anybody had any luck with this? cheers, Nivo Update: Jepp support advised rebooting the iPad which cured the problem. They advise they are working on a fix for this issue. |
Had a issue when my area coverage is up the 180 parallel 5nm wide from NZ to alaska... Jepp wont get back to me with a fix, guess it's a new program and a few serious issues
|
Oooohhhhh, this and Ozrunways......what else do you need!
Even Forkie might join the iFad revolution :E |
Its seems you can only see the approach plates , no maps/charts are available outside of the USA and canada from what i can figure from playing with my subscription
|
As for the problem you are having, it is an issue that we are working on. This happens when the coverages do not touch on land. Yours is not working because you have the Far East and Australasia.
Received the above from Jepp last night. Guess a fix is on it's way :hmm: |
The Australian maps and approach charts are working for me. The more you zoom in, the greater the detail. You can even have track up for VH-XXX!
As Jaba said, this and Ozrunways - all you need. Cheers, Nivo |
Mine's been plug & play. On the desk here its very impressive. Can't wait to fly with it. I like the manual look up using iBooks.
|
Anyone know what the subscription fees are for (the Mobile Jepp FD coverage)
a) Australia and/or b) Australiasia Pacific Basin ? |
blueloo,
I asked Jeppesen in Canberra and they said the JeppView subscription which is what the app asks you for is $273.95 for the first year. You can use that subscription on 4 systems too. |
Jabair had its first Jepp FD mobile experience today. Works well, except the list below.
No Freq Data on the chart (or I can't find where to turn it on) No User Waypoints (that I can find) Did an RNAV and did not see the GPS position on the chart like the old FD does, (which is no biggie for me but the FTDK seems to think so) http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/a...0/IMG_0521.jpg And the OzRunways by comparison, for IFR and VFR its still way in front with WAC's etc etc etc, I do prefer the Jepp plates and the en route charts are clearer. http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/a...0/IMG_0522.jpg |
Anyone know of the user waypoints and the hibernating are being dealt with?
I have just emailed them about these things, who knows if it makes any difference. |
the bugs are known, and are being worked on.
|
Are the Jepp FD functions all working?
Im trying to add route waypoints specifically airports with both NDB and VOR. For example I stick in MDG but want the track to originate from the VOR and not the NDB. Is there a way to differentiate between the two? Cheers |
Jaba,
How'd you get the JeppFD to show your position on the airway? I tried today, with an external (Bad Elf) GPS, with Airplane mode on, and off. All to no avail. Cheers, |
Jay Bo, I've contacted Jepp about that problem. Basically there is no way to specify a VOR or the NDB and the route algorithm defaults to the navaid closest to the direct track. What happens then is that if it defaults to the NDB, but the VOR of the same name is what defines the airway, it won't accept the airway as part of the route. It is frustrating as it's a pretty fundamental function of a flight planning/routing program to be able to specify what type of navaid you want. I suspect this has happened because it's made by Yanks, and the Yanks have forgotten that some parts of the world still have a significant number of NDBs. :ok:
P.S. You can work around it by just manually entering waypoints though the tracks won't be quite right particularly where the NDB and VOR are some distance from each other. They need a way to save routes as well. And they could do with giving you more than just the departure, destination, and two alternates. |
Clarrie:ok:
By actually flying on the airway, you need to try a bit harder with your nav skills:} Ok seriously, go to you iPad setting and make sure the LOCATION SERVICES has you Jepp app on. The when in Jepp FD poke the own sip icon and you should be where you meant to be. Anyone know if user waypoints will be released any time soon. I can't leave home without them. |

When I press the arrow icon to display present position, it can take up to 10 minutes to actually find where I am. How long have you been waiting?
TSIO |
I am indoors right now and this image took 10 seconds max.
You do need to press the OWNSHIP ICON in the bottom right, and maybe you have turned it off:p. http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/a.../photoJepp.png And for Forkie's benefit......The Retard Vehicle off track a little, but check out the speed and altitude :E http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/a...0/photoOZR.png Ranga....sorry about the spelling etc...bloody iphone keyboard. iThings are great devices but they never replace a good keyboard and puter! |
Thanks dood, I'm struggling to understand this at the best of times!!
|
the issue I have with the app is I cant see any DME distance steps, am I blind or are they not included?
|
No you are not blind....I can't find them either. Even if it was included in the notes tab when you click on the 'i' icon. There are no ATC frequencies or other stuff either
The FD App is rather lacking in quite afew areas. I prefer the Jepp Approach plates and use them. For everything else I use the OzRunways app. |
Info
I have the same problem if you know how can solved appreciated your help.

aip
Hey guys,
So the aip (atc, met, terminal etc) sections come with the 280 buck package or is that just ercs, plates and tacs? I'm trying to get the books on my pad, dont want the plates and charts.. Anyone done this? |
22k,
I don't think you can download only 'the books'. Manuals are selectable, in that one selects which if any, to download. But I've not noticed any select ability of charts. |
I've just joined the iPad revolution by purchasing an ipad2 wi-fi. Has anyone been able to successfully pair a Bluetooth GPS receiver with the iPad to run their own ship position? I was hoping to get my location showing up on Jeppesen FD and other apps such as Oz Radar. I thought I'd check it will work first before I splash out $100+ on a receiver. Sounds like it works ok on ozrunways but wasn't sure about jepp FD.
|
Used the DualXGPS150 via Bluetooth the other day with iPad2 in flight mode, (Bluetooth on of course) and it worked great with Jepps and Oz runways.
|
I add my vote to the dual x GPS150. Works well - and more importantly leaves your iPad/Iphone docking port free (and means if you need to charge both iPad/iphone and dual x Gps they can be plugged into another power supply inflight should they require it via a small battery pack)
|
Thanks for the info. Could you pick it up locally or did you have to use eBay or Amazon?
|
Hi Ando, If you're looking for the Dual xgps 150 there are all the usual places as you know. If you want it new from the agent, then the best I've found so far is Expansys in Hong Kong. Shipping an additional $15 registered post, 10 days + or $30 Fedex -4 days.
Amazon won't ship it to Aus. |
Thanks Trent :ok:
|
Jepp FD mobile update folks!
Some of the things we all asked for have finally arrived. Go get em folks And Trent972, would you mind picking to pieces the photo above, should be a few there for ya!:ok: |
did they fix the aip side of things? ie not just one big pdf file?
|
I take that all back, USER waypoints are fine IF you can guess where to poke your finger, and then you can not adjust the Lat and Long. :ugh::ugh::ugh:
In Australia when so many places are not in the Jepp system, you need a decent USER waypoint system. OzRunways, still a better app overall, although the Jepp will allegedly show your plane on a airport diagram now, but that was never really a biggie. |
I recommend the GNS 5870 iPad GPS. Has a very cool 'swipe on / swipe off' interface and a good signal.
|
Jaba, when I lasy played with Jepp TC I found it annoying that i couldn't have the whole chart displayed at once, but had to scroll to to bottom to see the Minima details etc, has this been fixed.
Also I can't seem to find pricing on the Jepp website, how much do you pay for a 12 month subscription mate? |
Mobile FD you can zoom in and out, so yes that is all good.
As for how much, Jepp View is what you buy, maybe $200+/- a bit. The ipad app is free. |
Who did you call mate? I'm having issues with the Jepp site
|
Phone Jepps in Canberra.
They are pretty helpful, and on a scale out 1-10 for service in Canberra, about 9.5:eek: But when you are in Canberra, it is not hard to shine! :O |
