Oz runways, the way to go from now on - has to be a lot safer than flying around with 10+ year old charts.

I hear one airline in PNG is equipping their Dash 8s with IPads to go paperless cockpits (to some degree).

Great work Oz runways!

They are still 10 years old.....just digital !

We've put warnings on all of the DAPS in big red letters at the top that they may be out of date. As far as I'm aware I've got the latest published charts (still super-old) however I've got no way of checking them, no way of doing any proper amendment process, etc. A big caution.

I'll make the RNC charts say (2004) in brackets to make that more obvious (doing that now). Thanks.

You also need to refer to the very long list of NOTAMs published since the effective date of the chart to see what (if any) permanent details might supersede/amend the chart. Best you can do for now - but very necessary - particularly for AYPY, and also for some other of the more frequently used airports (hesitate to say major). Note also details from an early 2012 SUP re changes to RNC related to new VORDME at Kavieng, which mean that all routes to/from Kavieng are different. Ditto earlier NOTAMs (and/or knowledge) re navaids that are on the RNC that are actually no longer in existence or operational - therefore related route is effectively invalid.

As far as I can tell the PNG data is all in a very sorry state of affairs, with most companies compiling their own data and no official updates in a long time. Does that seem an accurate statement?

Yes....

A lot of self regulation going on, which has actually worked quite well as most people who have been around up here for any reasonable period of time have learnt that they must keep things above board in order to reduce accidents/fatalities. The natural resource companies are probably having more of a positive impact on regulation and compliance than CASA due to available funding and the technical expertise that they have access to.
