Must understand this is not a get rich industry, demand can be unpredictable, so flexibility is necessary. Must understand the aircraft is not a penis extension, it is their office in which they risk their lives daily and that correct and careful daily inspection, maintenance and operation of the aircraft helps keeps them alive. All aspects of safety and daily care of the aircraft and equipment must be a primary concern. The promotion of Best Practice over Common Practice is expected at all times. I have had my share of bullartists, con men, weirdos and badly trained monkeys. I want a real pilot who can work within Company Policies. Talk about a 'Must Have' Wishlist....
And some say there is a shortage of experienced pilots in Oz ....?
The conditions that are listed as 'Must Have', in job ads these days, makes a mockery of the Aussie Fair Go.

'Fair Go' you have to have at least the endorsement and 300 hours experience on a KingAir (as stipulated by the mining company), to even be considered for a mining contract charter job..
Pity the poor sprog trying to get his first turbine job.
Similarly with other sections of the industry.

An employer with any sense, would have the nouse to be able to pick a good type of pilot, endorse him (her), integrate them, and retain them to get the value back, without having to winge at the hiring stage.
If they can't do that, then they aren't Managers.

What a negative ad from an employer.. Wouldn't even apply.

The employer has obligations too, if you can't provide your people with an income they can rely on, then it's you and your business that has the problem not the employee.

Ive seen my fair share of nut jobs in the Ag industry, mental nut job school bully types who yell and carry on all day who want everything done their way and any way you do it its wrong, this add looks like something they would write.

My how times have changed, assuming this article is legitimate. Shame if true. And a pity for the industry. Is there an opening for some non-nutcases, non-cowboys et al to consider dusting off their goggles?

Geez, she's already narrowed down the field of potential job applicants, to only 2 pilots in the whole of Australia, hasn't she? :) :p

Sounds like a tough bunch to work for. It obviously goes without saying, that you're also expected work for peanuts, as well as being Top Gun in the Ag Aviation field.
It certainly sounds like she got what she paid for, in the past, by way of pilot employees.

If & I say if with tongue in cheek this employer is right about what is obviously yr A typical Ag driver (in her eyes that is)then that section of the industry is indeed sad.

Still it was entertaining to read. And here I thought planes where an extension of ones penis, she's just ruined my whole outlook in life !!!:E

It's funny how any add for any job really is just another form of 'bait' & I'd hate to get my fingers caught in her trap:E

I think she is tired of the w@nkers and really, all she asks for is fair enough. It is just she has the ....errr balls to print it! :D

Cannot see anything funny about that ad. Everything that is requested is perfectly reasonable to expect from someone seeking such employment.

The only thing that I consider slightly funny, or more accurately unusual, is that someone has the intestinal fortitude to say what they mean, with out being hamstrung by political correctness garbage.

I love the Aussies, just say it like it is! I only wish there were more honesty of this nature in today's sad and miserably PC world. I believe we should all be free to say what we want, but equally to take the consequences thereof.

A few of the accidents I've heard of in the last six months were very expirenced level headed drivers. I wouldn't call any of them cowboys. Care to elaborate?
Back to the add, does anybody know any one who has an AG rating without any tailwheel work? With the run of quiet years we've had expirenced drivers are harder to find, the good operators never seem to have trouble getting people to stay.

Someone who has only done Fletcher or Cresco topdressing work could very easily have no tailwheel experience. Not all Ag planes are tail draggers.

Correct, know of any others besides that Norman thing that was demonstrator only? Even people that have only flown Fetchers most of their career have flown tailwheels with AG rating. I know of only one possible in the last thirty years who might not have had tailwheel time.

Still I spose you have to cover every possiblity. To me personally, having both been employed and employing people I would not put an add in like that.

The reports just on Cessna Agwagon incidents alone, make for interesting reading. "Cowboy" seems about right in Sheryls description, if some of these incidents are anything to go on.
She could have also mentioned, "an innate ability to sense or remember exactly where every power line is", as another pre-requisite of the job... :hmm:
What amazes me is the ability of so many crop-dusting pilots to escape, from crashes that would normally be fatal.
Maybe it's just the low crop-dusting speeds that help... or they either have super-quick reflexes... or more lives than a cat... :hmm:

Being an ex ag pilot from many years ago I can say that she has no chance of finding her man.
I would hate to see what Sheryl would put into an ad if she was looking for a husband.

Translation of the ad for the likes of whagi warrior and all those others that hink that Ag employers are the salt of the earth.

Wanted:

Ag II with nil accident history.

Must have been mixer/driver, and have all CASA, AAAA and state gov't ag dept accreditation, BWA,

Must own car and have drivers licence endorsed for heavy vehicles

Must be willing to work as mixer/driver for other real ag pilots for mixer/loader wages, casual, part time minimum rates.

must wash planes for other pilots/owner & wife's car

must be prepared to ignore part 48, even as it applies to the Ag industry

must be prepared to smell bad, and must not be frightened of working with dangerous chemicals with a minimum of PPE.

May be allowed to ferry planes from time to time

Must not let any family considerations affect work availability, this is a 24/7/365 job

Must be prepared to live in substandard accommodation in remote locations, at moderate rental costs (to you).

Must smoke 60 a day (optional for rollie smokers).

Must still have the bright enthusiasm of a true vocation in the industry.

Must not have had the spirit ground out of them yet, we will do this for you.

When asked to jump, must ask "how high"?.... whilst on the way up.

Well Ag Pilots are professional Pilots and know how to fly because of low wires working when farmers cant get on the field etc and in bad conditions
an experienced Ag pilot has been through alot to get at least 500 hrs and by that time has learnt alot by seeing all the hazards of the environmetn
Anyone can fly an Ag plane but to work it at low level watching for bird tress wires etc takes a special breed of Pilot and men
None left today a dying breed
ask any Ag pilot you know all are older guys no bullshot with them

C-188 crashes, no different from any other ag aircraft,100 kts with a load has abit of weight,do not forget ,there is a cage around the pilot not like a c-172???but the bigger aircraft still crumble,it,s what you hit???& how... not people know of the Transavia air truck???
one of the best super spreading aircraft around,one doesnt have to worry about cross winds ,with good visability ,no dust on wind shield etc

Sure employers have responsibilities (and as J* shows there are crappy companies that do everything they can to P1ss-off their employees).

But in an environment such as Sheryl's, she seems to have hit the nail on the head.

The principles stated in her ad should apply not just to the job but life in general!

To all of you armchair experts that have never spread a single ton of super or sprayed an acre of anything other than the BS that sprays from your key board, Go away and leave this thread the boys that have the runs on the board, cos you know Jack Sh!t about ag work that's for sure.

come back with a few mega tons and a few different (or not so different) ag employers under your belt and you will sing a different song. They are not the 'salt of the earth', it's the pilots who put it on the line day after day, who get pushed into long hours, stretching legalities, and who get hung out to dry if there is any sort of incident.

been there done that, best flying in the world, but time to move on.

Eighteen seasons flying Ag {Took LOA from the airline, didnt learn to fly to spend fourteen hours straight and level!} This ad says what many of us doing the hiring looked for, still have the right to work in OZ and all ratings up to date, but its morning now and the effect of the nightcap drink has worn of, think Il give it a pass!
