Great news for those finally on their way to where they want to be! Are they actioning the transfer list completely, for example, are people in Perth wishing to come back east getting the call too?

perth base crew getting a transfer out will depend on whether or not it is significantly over staffed. remember that melbourne l/h base for years you could transfer into but not out of due to crap rosters that made the base very unattractive.
congrats to those with the transfer, to those still waiting it will take a few days at least to work through the list. don't despair

what the hell is going on with cabin crew management, or is that mismanagement. spoke to some syd short haul crew last night at a party. there are notices up asking for volunteers from both csm and f/a ranks to work extra hours because they are short of crew. apparently the same is happening in melbourne, more drafting, yet they are sending csms to longhaul as f/a's when reserve crew are not even achieving min 150 hours on reserve! could be a lot more cairns crew heading south if the muppets in management keep this up. haven't heard anything re perth or brisbane situation.

From crew voice and the union there will be no transfers out of the Perth base. Crew on the list not happy but realize nothing they can do about it.

....further to Indamiddle's post.....they are asking for LH to take up temporary part time for F/A and OBM from BP 262 for 3, 6, 9 or 12 bid periods.

I don't get it either....they go ahead and yank much needed crew from SH and send them off to LH and then have the nerve to offer LH crew temporary part time???????:ugh:

When questioned about it on Crew Voice (as to how the company can consider CR on the one hand, and start recruiting for New Entity in January 2009 on the other), Alison said that "we have an oversupply of EBA 7 crew". So regardless of what the IR laws are etc., the company can do as they please in relation to getting rid of crew via CR and then employing people into the new entity.

The FAAA can embark on a PR campaign to highlight this 'travesty' until it goes blue in the face....but frankly, I think in this day and age when other companies are facing staff cut backs and the economy going the way it is around the world.....I think the FAAA's PR campaign would fall on very, very unsympathetic ears of the public.

A lot of companies have announced CR across the globe...why should Qantas and its employees be immune to it? I'm not being cantankerous here....just being honest and calling a spade a spade. If global banks can get rid of its highly skilled and tertiary educated workforce....why should Qantas not be able to get rid of its (relative to other professions) lowly skilled workers...F/As? Once again...I'm not stirring the pot....just trying to be realistic and seeing things from a corporate perspective and not through the rosy eyes of FAAA or (some righteous) F/As .

Get rid of incompetant management, we're overstaffed by middle management shuffling paper and trying to look important and achieving absolutely nothing.

Come on Mr Joyce, open your eyes , blind freddy can see it. As the CEO from next week you can and should do it.

The IR laws apply equally to both "highly skilled" and "unskilled" workers alike... I am not sure of all the loopholes that the company may use to get around them but I would be surprised if it would be that simple....

I was not privy to the last crew voice but I had a question posed on my behalf re compulsory redundancies.... I recieved this reply in my pigdeon hole recently.

"re your crew voice question, No weight in the rumour about forced redundancy. refer to EBA, casuals would have to go first"

Well it doesnt exactly say that but I guess they are reffering to the last point of the redundancy clause.



22. REDUNDANCY
In addition to the provisions of Part C of this Agreement, where Qantas initiates redundancies it will be
in accordance following process:
• Expressions of interest will be called for from all flight attendant categories. Selection for
redundancy from those that expressed an interest will be in accordance with seniority.
• Where there are insufficient expressions of interest, any compulsory redundancies of employees
will occur in reverse order of seniority (that is from junior to senior).
• For this purpose cabin crew employed by Qantas or by any new third party labour provider will be
treated as one group for the determination of seniority.
• Any unbroken period of service in the long haul division or as an ongoing employee with any third
party labour provider to Qantas of short haul/domestic cabin crew, that is continuous with service
under this Agreement will be included when calculating an employee’s seniority for the purposes of
selection for redundancy.
• Qantas acknowledges that prior to any consideration of compulsory redundancies, the continued use of
casual flight attendants must be examined and justified.

Hi there Trollywally....I did not listen to crew voice on this occasion either...however I asked my best friend to listen in for me...and he told me that Alison made the comment re: CR....."we have had discussions with the union". This of course does not necessarily mean that it will happen, but nonetheless, the company has raised the issue to be talked about now.

I don't think the unions or anyone has the power to stop Qantas from embarking on CR. Qantas is a capitalist enterprise just like any other and it has the right to shed its workforce if it can prove that times are tough and that it has tried to offer VR and other measures like LWOP and Part time. Whether Qantas can get away with offerring CR before the end of the year and then recruiting into New Entity in January 2009 is debatable. I'm putting big bets they can get away with it. They are very smart......oopps rephrase that....they employ smart labour market specialist lawyers.

Don't take my post the wrong way...I'm not gloating happily about it all or being smug. I'm just playing devil's advocate here and trying to put forth other arguments for healthy discussion.

Possibly a naive view, however, Qantas has just announced further fleet reductions to the equivalent of 6 x B744 and 3 x B763. Therefore wouldn't the possibility of CR be more likely in Long Haul and therefore potentially effect the new QCCA crew?.... just an observation and would welcome others discussing this point.

Unless the industry really goes pear shaped the A380 deliveries "should" help to prevent the need for redundancies...........

another 2 A380 deliveries in december will soak up some of the excess qcca crew. anyone know where reductions in flying (i.e. ports) will be from?

Indamiddle... Apparently the reduction will be to services to LA, London and Hong Kong.
