Dunk Island crash

Sure was the Hinterland shrike. Pilot and 4 pax all walked away ok. I am told it was a flap problem but that is all I know at this stage. A/C dosn't look to badly damaged on my mobile phone photo, but I guess a closer look will reveal all.

Great when they all walk away ok:ok::}:}:}

As I was coming back from Tully today a passing jet said he had picked up an ELT on 121.5 and reported it too centre.

compressor stall 6th Oct 2008 00:32

Better rolling off the end of the runway at 25 knots than airborne, upside down, at 60 knots.

Probability of survival is proportionate to angle of arrival - dragging a fully laden light twin into the air with a dead engine is a good way to end up nose down and inverted. Gotta concur with Stallie - run it off the end and walk away.

In a former life as a charter pilot I took a heavily laden C402B out of Dunk on a number of occassions. My pre-TO briefing always included "If I loose an engine before well establised in the climb, I will close the throttles and prepare to swim"!

Well done that pilot!
