Flight bags
My flight bag is on its last legs. I have an old cordura Tosca pilots bag and from looking at their website they no longer make them. Previously I had a vinyl one and prior to that another cordura one, all about the same size. Basically I keep eveything in it and unless on a long trip only take out what I need, but it is nice to have everything in the one bag.
Anyway my search for a new one has not turned up anything that really floats my boat. About the best compromise that I have come up with are the following: Skylines Aviation Supply - Moorabbin The Captain bag and New! Deluxe Flight Gear Bag - Sporty's Pilot Shop Anyway if anyone has any info on what has worked for them and might have escaped my search it would be much appreciated. I think I will stick with cordura rather than vinyl/leather, just coz I like it better! Mind you I do like the look of this soft leather one: Pilot Bags & Accessories - Large Soft Leather Pilot Bag Cheers Mr Bomb |
I have a Jeppesen "aviator" bag. Pretty tough, comes with headset bag and one for a transciever (I keep an overnight kit in it but), and fits 2 Jepps + Ersa + approach folder + room for a little bit more in the main bit, plus maps and nav stuff in the zips. Haven't had any trouble with it at all, can highly recommend the quality. If you need more room the navigator or captain bags are probably just as good, I personally found them too bulky to consider keeping one in the plane with me. To each their own!:ok:

Ditto what the Cap'n says! I have the same bag.

hey a subject that might fix my dilema, someone to help me get a new 'fright bag':) I actually don't like any of the ones shown here, too big & baulky for me. I've been using a 'Tosca' general purpose bag (much like a laptop bag) for many years now but it's all but stuffed (like its owner:}) Anyone else got any ideas other than what's been sugested here?

I do like this one too.
Leather Original Flight Gear Bag - Sporty's Pilot Shop Not quite as big as the others, probably around the right size for what I am after. Cheers Mr Bomb |
I went to a normal luggage shop near me and found a great flight bag that fits into the aircraft perfectly, has wheels and extendable handle. $99.95. Maybe try some luggage shops.

I can do you one better! I use a coles blue chiller bag as my Nav Bag! Cost me about $1. I can put everything in including headsets and it zips up and it fits on the floor just behind the pilot seat in the aircraft within easy reach.
300:ok: |
300 Series
Given your current clientele, 300, you would blend right in :hmm:
I have previously admired your Jepp bag and am dropping hints that the little Leafblowers might like to buy me one for my birthday next month :ok: |
Hi. If you want a really great nav bag and are prepared to pay for it, give Tumi a try.
Tumi are expensive (don't go for the leather option) but I have had one for two years and it's been fantastic. Great range etc. They are business type briefcases and luggage with ergonomic designs and are very durable. Have been voted world's best luggage before (e.g. Robb report). |
I've been using the Zuluworks Gazelle Flight Bag for 2 years now and it is a great bag. Has 2 zip off headset bags for shorter flights or zip the whole thing together for long flights with lots of gear.
|
now 'kelly' those 'Tumi' are some flash looking bags, trouble is which one to choose? Tnxs for the link, shall see if I can find a supplier.
All the others just seem cheap looking & baulky. Still horses for courses I guess, pvt flying take the lot 'cause it's meant to be fun, flying for a living take the bare min, there's enough junk in todays cockpits as it is:) CW:) |
If you want to go all out on a really nice nav bag try:
Scott Leather Company :ok: |
"Given your current clientele, 300, you would blend right in "
I do blend right in, the khaki shirts help to. But as for the nav bag it cost me $1 and my clientele keep saying things to me like Ah Puck Piylote, you gib me pree wun ey! Ah puck you racist. Horatio My other leather one i can't remember the brand and what model etc, but when i find out ill let you know. Seem to remember it costing me around the $100 mark, not too sure though. 300 |
Try the Jeppesen Student Bag
G'day mate,
I personally use the Jeppesen Student Bag, it's seen me right through my career, not to big and not to small, seems to be very popular at my place of employment as well. Jeppesen Student Pilot Bag - JS621212 If you do decide you want the Jeppesen Captain Bag, PM me as I initially brought it, but it was just to BIG so it's only been used a few times. Happy Flying :ok: |
I just use a backpack. Sling it over your back, much easier to lug stuff around.

Large Soft Leather Pilot Bag
Hi,
Has anyone of you come across a website that offers a flight bag called " Large Soft Leather Pilot Bag "? This bag is manifactured in two colors: Solid Natural and Solid Black. After countless hours in front of my laptop, I have found three websites that offer such a product but they only have it in black. I am interested in the Solid Natural color!! To give you an idea, the link for this product is: Ultimate Light Weight Flight Kit | Pilot Shop & Pilot Supplies at PilotMall.com The three websites that I've contacted are: 1- pilotmall.com 2- aviatorwebsite.com 3- ipilot.com (which is the same as pilotmall.com) If you have any link for this bag, please don't hesitate to share it with me! Thank you. |
I set my eyes on the Jeppesen Aviator bag, but before I fork out the money, can anybody who has one please tell me if the main compartment is large enough for 3 X Jeppesen 2-inches leather binders and a normal A5 folder?
|
I have 2 Jeppesen flight bags and I doubt that what you want is a Jeppesen flight bag. And why are you still on paper charts? The bag you need for iPads, etc is a fair bit different.
When I used paper charts, I had 2 x 2 inch binders in a square headset bag. They went in the back of the aeroplane. I also had a 1-inch binder with maps and commonly used plates. Trip plates go in the knee board. The flight bag houses the 1 - inch binder and all the other bits and pieces. It's small enough to fit under my knees. The Jeppesen bag is too big to easily fit in the cabin with passengers. |
