Ill second the last comment, the more flying you do, you tend to shed a lot of unused stuff-and given current trends, you'll get away with little more than a "man bag" these days, fabric shopping bags are perfect size.

You certainly don't have to convince me of the superiority of an EFB compared to paper documents, I'd love to use an ipad with Jeppview, Avplan or OzRunways, BUT the operator I work for has not implemented EFBs in the Operations Manual yet and there is no sign of that happening any time soon, so for the time being paper documents will have to do. The flight bag I've been using (abusing is a more appropriate word) for the past 5 years is, not surprisingly, about to fall apart and the Jeppesen Aviator appears to be the right size I need. Is anybody out there able to answer my original question please?

US Luggage leather laptop bag?
 

I've had a US Luggage leather laptop bag as current and previous.
Wear pretty well.
Only changed out of the previous one when I didn't need to lug around two 2 inch Jepp binders.
The larger one fit two Jepp binders end to end where the laptop would have gone.
The laptop sleeve/protector inserts slide out and leave a lot of space.
They come in various sizes and with/out wheels.
Plenty of pockets for all the rubbish that seems to accumulate in it.
US Luggage seem to make them in lots of sizes/options.
Big thing for me has always been lots of pockets etc and durability.
Always been great on both.

If you are flying commercially, I think you'll need a more compact solution than the Jepp bags.

I used to have the jepp aviator. It was always awkward to carry around with just the handle, I'd lost the shoulder strap a while ago.
Just recently bought a Military style CamelBak. CamelBak Products LLC
It serves well with holding all my charts and overnight gear.
Probably the best thing about it is having the pack sitting directly behind me with the hydration tube coming up the left side of the seat.
%90 of my flying is fairly remote so need a lot of water handy. And the tube makes drinking a lot easier rather than having to juggle an open bottle in turbulence.

I have a $10 tablet bag that was reduced from $45, I liked it so much I went back a week later and bought four more for future flight bags! :ok:

I use this:

Built tough for military use, it has pockets everywhere an fits three, two inch jepp binders, license, VFR charts, handheld GPS, torch etc. It also has pen pockets and water bottle pockets which I use to keep clean rags in. Not specifically built for aviators, it definitely suits our trade. Better than any of the "pilot bags" I've seen out there.

Sits nicely between Cessna/piper twin seats, and looks like it will stand the test of time.

It is comfortable to carry across the tarmac and you can hang your headset bag off the side from one of the many loops/straps.

I second that, I have been using a Scott bag ever since the Jepp leather bag quality, in my opinion, deteriorated. The Scott bags are as near as indestructible as you are likely to find in a leather bag.
