Todays Fin Review has Joyce talking Qantas Facts and figures.A realm usually the preserve of Dixon,Borghetti or Gregg.
Is this the beginning of a transition from Jet* to Qantas ?

Whoever started this thread, WHATS YOUR SOURCE, anyway I would wonder who would take over Jetstar then???

Is it true that Alan Joyce earns 5mill a year??

Timing might start to make sense:

- announce GD retirement (maybe at next AGM?), AJ succession and succession for new J* CEO
- certain others in group management get the sh!ts and walk
- replacements can be sought and integrated before the CEO hand-over
- all runs smoothly, rather than massive dislocation at the top
- GD walks having successfully brought in the Dugong (and maybe 787, depending on planned succession timing and delays in both deliveries and securing new management) - possibly around 70th birthday.

All then looks sweet and well-planned. Having more than a year between CEO announcement and departure is not unusual for a large company.

Looks like Leigh Clifford has announced that Alan Joyce will be the next CEO when Dixon steps down at the AGM in November. Dixon may stay around as a consultant after this date to help out. Obviously he needs to pick up a few more dollars for his retirement.

This article hidden in the Australian this morning, tells the truth. Obviously not front page news.

Mr Joyce becomes chief executive designate from today and will take over when Geoff Dixon steps down after the company's annual general meeting on November 28.

Qantas chairman Leigh Clifford said Mr Joyce was an outstanding executive with wide experience in all facets of the airline industry.

“Alan will also join the board of Qantas with immediate effect,” he said.

“Geoff and Alan will work together over the next four months to ensure a smooth transition and continuity.”

Mr Dixon will remain available to Qantas on a consulting basis until next March 31.

Joyce was annointed in late March.
The difficulty has been finding a suitable candidate to replace him at JetStar.
Potential successors were thin on the ground.
Those who were considered suitable didnt want the job.
Now that a replacement has been found it can be revealed that Joyce would replace dixon.
After the media and the industry has digested this the new Jetstar CEO will be announced.
Be prepared to be further surprised .

So who gets the jernsy at JetStar now?
Wouldn't be the chap who headed up Australian would it?

It will be interesting to see who is charge at JQ. They don't really have a second in charge or any obvious candidate. Possibly an external candidate is likely.

There will be a few surprises when the name is announced shortly. It's been a very well kept secret.

I think you'll find he already reports to the QF board in the Jetstar role and therefore no.

I hope he now realises how much Qantas has spent on getting J* up and running and everything to do with J* has come at Qantas expense. I work in engineering and we do all their servicing with no recompense at all. Some money, "we have been told", has been paid, but engineering has not seen a cent. (Sounds a lot like Air New Zealand/Ansett demise)

Recently at a Managers meeting at which some Engineering personnel were in attendance. (discussion turned to Qantas Vs John Holland bid for A380 Engineering) We were asked if one of the new A380's which was being serviced by JH was in trouble, would we go to their aid as it was a Qantas aircraft. Well you could have heard a pin drop when they were told NO. That would be JH's problem and if this company wanted to give Qantas Engineering to JH then they would have to suffered the consequences.

Recently J* announced that they were not inviting Qantas Engineering to bid for the 787 contract as they were going to do all their servicing themselves. Where they are going to get enough experienced engineers with a new type license, to handle the 60 odd aircraft they're going to be getting, is beyond us.

I can't wait to see J* flounder out there with inexperienced LAME's and AME's. It should be fun to watch them try and operate on their own with out the support of Qantas Engineering.

Let's see if they win anymore Low Cost Airline awards when things turn to SH1T.
