34R sorry bit of a dud comment on my part. Just pointing out that not everyone is rushing for the first airline job available. I'm fortunate that I feel no need to rush. I'll shut up now and await comments in the future from people who know something useful.:}

34R 19th Jan 2010 20:07

Not at all mate, not having to rush into a decision is a pretty good position to be in, as far as waiting is concerned.

I sincerely hope your wait wont be too long, whichever path unfolds for you.

Qantas careers - Update from Qantas Pilot Recruitment

slice 27th Jan 2010 23:04

When you click Qantas Pilots link it takes you straight to back to the Qantas Careers homepage. Hmmmm......

The future is, sadly, ORANGE!!

Mecarsa Bitrusty 28th Jan 2010 00:44

Direct from the QF website

At present, the Qantas Direct Entry Trainee Second Officer Scheme is on hold and no new application's are being accepted.

Horatio Leafblower 28th Jan 2010 00:49

...and who would want to work for an airline that sprays apostrophes about willy-nilly like that?

Disgraceful. :=

Howard Hughes 28th Jan 2010 00:55

Qantas are always the first to stop recruiting and the last to start, don't worry they will be recruiting again!:ok:

Bo777 28th Jan 2010 10:29

Yeah some ground crew needed:ugh:

Gnadenburg 28th Jan 2010 15:02

Why would you want to join Qantas as a pilot? Would the long term risks of being employed by a legacy carrier, in a volatile industry with diverse factors such as energy costs, technology and low cost carriers, not be a big picture career deterrent?

Is a command at all possible within a professional lifetime?

Just wondering....

Lodown 28th Jan 2010 16:56

High end GA is getting progressively more attractive every year.

Bypass ratio 29th Jan 2010 04:11

With 20+ years to command you must be mad...!! Count me out:ok:

Scooter Rassmussin 29th Jan 2010 06:21

20 years to command is not that bad if you start at age 23-28 , you spend the majority of that time as an f/o earning more than a jetstar captain , then you get a huge payrise to earn more than almost any other pilot on the planet.
Financially the QF Pilot will always be the richest guy in the cemetary, and he will not reach the cemetary till after his equivalent aged overworked Jetstar buddy.

Let's join Jet* and work for sweet F#$% all. Now there's a good idea.

The Hill 29th Jan 2010 11:05

Gee thanks Gnadenburg, I have now seen the light, I would much rather sell my soul than work for a legacy:ugh::ugh:

kellykelpie 29th Jan 2010 12:26

work for sweet F#$% all
Nunc,

You must be Nuts...

I don't know what rank you hold in QF, but chances are that if you've joined within the last 4-8 years then your JQ counterpart is earning a lot more than you are. Yes, he or she has more responsibility, career growth and job satisfaction - there's a good idea...

Koala Sheila 29th Jan 2010 13:44

then your JQ counterpart is earning a lot more than you are
Wanna bet? You must be reading a different award kellykelpie:confused:

Nunc 29th Jan 2010 15:38

Same responsibilty old boy kelly but from what my mates in JQ are saying stuff all job satisfaction flying same hours as was for far less dough and using the opportunity until something better comes along. Missed out on QF kelp, I wonder why.

MrSheffield 29th Jan 2010 22:32

Probably in the short term you'll make more at Jestar, because by the time you go from S/O to F/O at QF you'd have gone from F/O to CAPT at J*. Longterm however, always be better off at Qantas. It's a matter of what suits you or whom you can get into, not all pick and choose for some.

Not all want to be old and wrinkled by the time we earn 250+
